Alex Speier @alexspeier · 2m Eovaldi: “It definitely meant a lot to me, especially with how much we’ve been using the bullpen lately.”
Eovaldi says it means a lot - given his injury history and how the game is changing. “I want to finish every game.” From the 6th/7th innings, he felt like he found his curveball and mechanics to get quick outs and get his CG.

and a GIDP ends it
Red Sox win 5-3 Complete game for Eovaldi who pitched well, albeit giving up another tater
Nasty Nate Line
9IP/ 7/3/2/1bb/6k/108-75
Next game in a few hours so the Gas Can gang will get a chance to blow it again later That was a nice surprise. I was clicking back and forth. I switched for about ten seconds with one out and the guy on 1st, and flipped back and they were interviewing him. We're starting to get some production out of the players that aren't the 2-3-4 guys. Kiki, Verdugo, Arroyo and Bradley were ice-cold, and are now starting to contribute.

Bad karma for me to do it when Nate was on a roll. Yeah, I noticed other than the usual suspects, a few other batters are stepping up mistakes are down on the bases and with the gloves The Bullpen drives me bat shit crazy Hope they shore it up, Sale and Paxton coming in a summer, perhaps only pen is only arms needed. This team can hit, don't see a need to go bananas and deal just for a likely rental.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 37m Circumstances certainly contributed heavily to Eovaldi’s complete game — doubleheader, a rookie making his debut in the nightcap, heavy bullpen use last night. But also shows how few trustworthy relievers Alex Cora has. A fatal flaw until (or unless) it’s fixed.

Sometimes I will watch nothing but hitting, and do some chores while the RS are pitching. Sometimes I will only watch the pitching, and not the hitting. I truly believe that I am some sort curve or something where I take 14 hours of pent-up emotion, and let all these emotions and illogic spill over into RS games. Now excuse me while I take my good luck nap (that one I am kidding about).

Even after 2004, I still believe in karma, and the baseball gods.....guess I always will. Heck, I change where I sit to watch and even rotate caps that I wear, switch out only after a loss.
Folks here think it is nuts

BOSTON — The Red Sox won the first game of the doubleheader 5-3 over the Orioles on Saturday behind Nathan Eovaldi’s first ever complete game.
Now we wait to see if Game 2 starts on time. It’s raining here at Fenway Park (heavy rain at 4:40 p.m.) and the tarp is on the field.
The game is scheduled to start at 6:10 p.m. Josh Winckowski, who the Red Sox acquired in the Andrew Benintendi trade, will make his MLB debut.
J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts are not in the Red Sox lineup. Instead, Franchy Cordero will serve as the DH and Christian Arroyo will play shortstop.
Precipitation potential percentage drops from 82% in the 4 p.m. hour to 67% at 5 p.m., 60% at 6 p.m., 61% at 7 p.m. 46% at 8 p.m., 27% at 9 p.m. and 12% at 10 p.m., per the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service reports, “Showers and thunderstorms likely before 9pm, then a chance of showers between 9pm and 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 57. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 2m Winckowski's first two pitches: 95 mph called strike, 96 mph sinker for a groundball out by Mullins. He's officially a big leaguer.
Another sinker yielded another groundball, but a miscommunication between Arroyo (subbing at SS for Bogaerts) and Story allowed it to sneak through for the first hit allowed of Winckowski's career.
