John Tomase @jtomase 17m Ummm, where the hell did the Guardians come from? Red Sox have been the hottest team in baseball for six weeks, and thanks to Cleveland, if the season ended today, they'd miss the playoffs. I was thinking something similar a couple of days ago. The Guardians have been playing well. It's hard to pull against them because of Tito, but it would be nice if they cooled off a little bit. Nicely, as of today, it would be the Rays who'd miss the playoffs. Still pulling for them to win against the Yankees. We just have to keep taking care of our own business.

Ian Browne @ianmbrowne · 1h Tanner Houck is still not vaccinated. Alex Cora said the righty will not be making the trip to Toronto a week from today. I really hope that this does not cause any controversy and blame towards Houck if the bullpen ends up losing any games for us, especially when the team is playing so well.
While I wish he would get vaccinated, it's his decision and his right not to do so.

Franchy Cordero has 3 hits, Josh Winckowski goes 6 ⅔ innings as Boston Red Sox beat Tigers, 5-2Updated: Jun. 20, 2022, 10:56 p.m. | Published: Jun. 20, 2022, 10:07 p.m. By Chris Cotillo | ccotillo@MassLive.com BOSTON -- Red Sox manager Alex Cora often says that teams require contributions from far more players than the 26 they carry on their Opening Day rosters. On Monday night, two players who didn’t start the year in the majors carried Boston to a win over the Tigers. That's the thing about spending all your resources on 1 or 2 superstars. No matter how good they are, they cannot single handedly carry the team. It's often not about the superstars or the starting players, but about the guys who can fill in for them when needed.

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 6h Rays lose to the Yankees. Red Sox are in third place for the first time since 4/22. As I said, I'm still pulling for the Yankees to lose, but this is a nice by product of the Yankees winning. Either way, the Sox have to focus on their own business. Keep winning series, and things will end up favorably.

Julian McWilliams @byjulianmack · 1h Sale will throw two innings on Saturday in Florida. Eovaldi’s progress has been slow. Kiké Hernández felt his hip a bit. His progress has been off and on.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 1h When the Sox put Eovaldi on the IL on June 12, they weren't necessarily sure he needed it.
Now, nine days later, no progress and he hasn't been throwing. Depending who you ask it's his back or his hip.
Something to keep an eye on.

It's laughable how easy this game looks when you go the other way like Verdugo just did. Probably an 80 mph grounder, but no one within 20 feet of it.

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 8h J.D. Martinez is going to get paid.
Universal DH certainly was a positive development for his career. He still rakes. Unmentioned is JD's .420 BABIP. When that reverts to his career .340, so will his current year .944. He's still good, but I doubt he keeps this up. Hopefully, he keeps this up long enough that we can give him a QO. Same with Eovaldi.

RED SOX NOTEBOOK Jackie Bradley Jr.’s return has been a sight to see, following a revealing eye testBy Alex Speier Globe Staff,Updated June 20, 2022, 12:54 p.m. Jackie Bradley Jr.’s precipitous dropoff in 2021 with the Brewers proved so severe as to border on the inexplicable. This spring, however, a reason for his career-worst .163/.236/.261 line and 30.8 percent strikeout rate quite literally came into sharper focus. An eye check revealed an astigmatism in Bradley’s right eye. The abnormal curvature had a subtle blurring effect. Wouldn't this be a normal part of a year-end procedure, or a pre-ST procedure? Or anytime someone is slumping as badly as JB did last year?

I'd pitch him more often before the series, so he'd need the down time.
