Gimenez with a beautiful bunt single. Erased by a nice DP, but I love when guys can bunt. I wonder if the writers are still howling about that trade?
Gimenez 1.9 bWAR $35M Carrasco 0.8 WAR 12M
Gimenez 3.1 WAR $0.5M Rosario 1.7 WAR $5M
You need to good GM to be able to land these swindles, and maybe some luck (Gimenez will likely revert some). But half these star players should be traded after their 5th year.

I wish we had scored against Gose, but I can have nothing but respect for a guy that re-invents himself like that. For those of you that have forgotten, he was the centerpiece of the Oswalt trade in 2010. Washed out as a hitter back in 2016, and returned last year as an RP. Still only 31, he might be good enough to stick around another 3-4 years as an RP. Good luck to him.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 3m On a day the bullpen is a little short (they'd prefer not to use Schreiber), Rich Hill is through 5 scoreless innings on 65 pitches.

Boston Red Sox sweep Guardians and improve to 19-4 in June; J.D. Martinez, Trevor Story both knock in two runs Updated: Jun. 26, 2022, 5:47 p.m. | Published: Jun. 26, 2022, 5:05 p.m.

The Red Sox improved to 19-4 in June by completing a three-game sweep of the Guardians on Sunday.
Boston won 8-3 over Cleveland and now heads to Toronto to play the Blue Jays who sit a game and a half behind the Sox in the AL East standings.
The Red Sox (42-31) play 20 of their next 23 games against the Blue Jays, Rays and Yankees.
Rich Hill earned the win. He pitched 6 innings, allowing one run, five hits and four walks while striking out five. He recorded five swings-and-misses with his curveball and threw one just 66.6 mph.
Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers led off the third inning with back-to-back singles. Duran scored on a throwing error to put Boston ahead 1-0.
Franchy Cordero and Christian Vázquez stroked back-to-back doubles to begin the fourth inning. That made it 2-0.
Duran doubled, then Vázquez scored to make it 3-0 when Martinez grounded into a force-out.
Trevor Story delivered a two-out two-run flare to left field to put Boston ahead 5-0 in the sixth. The RBIs marked Story’s 49th and 50th this season and 499th and 500th for his career.
The Guardians’ lone run against Hill came in the sixth after a walk, double and RBI groundout.
Rafael Devers’ two-out RBI single in the seventh made it 6-1.
The Red Sox added two runs in the ninth on Martinez RBI double and wild pitch.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 1h Yolmer Sanchez will replace Duran on the roster in Toronto.
No 40-man move is needed. Cora said Sanchez is likely to start Wednesday so Story can get two days off in a row.

The American League stinks outside of a select few.
The Red Sox sweeping this series is thoroughly deserved.

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 3h Cleveland isn't a good team.

The Red Sox sweeping this series is thoroughly deserved. I don't even know how to process this. Cleveland is certainly a good team. They have 5 SPs which figure to be league average or better, and maybe much better. An excellent closer, and maybe the best player in the league. I think Koch is mad because he doesn't know what to write without giving the Red Sox credit.

Red Sox complete sweep in Cleveland for 7th straight win June 26th, 2022 Henry Palattella
CLEVELAND -- In the first two games of their weekend series against Cleveland, the Red Sox picked up wins behind momentum-shifting home runs.
In the series finale on Sunday, Boston rode timely hitting, solid base running and a couple of well-timed Cleveland misplays to an 8-3 victory to clinch a series sweep.
“This is night and day compared to where we were at early in the season,” manager Alex Cora said. “Early in the season we were swinging at bad pitches, not walking and striking out a lot. Now it’s the total opposite.”
Boston’s half of the fourth inning was a microcosm of the type of afternoon it was for both clubs. After Franchy Cordero opened the inning with a double, the Red Sox followed with doubles to right field from Christian Vázquez and Jarren Duran -- both of which were misread by Cleveland right fielder Oscar Gonzalez.
On Friday, Gonzalez showed off his defensive potential with an electrifying 96.7 mph throw from right to nab Christian Arroyo at the plate. On Sunday, Gonzalez showed he still has some room to improve.
While Vázquez’s double wasn’t a horrible misplay by Gonzalez, -- it didn’t help that he had a jump of -15.7 feet on the play -- Duran’s double had an expected batting average of .080 and a catch probability of 80 percent. Gonzalez tracked the ball well, but he didn’t fully extend his arm when trying to make the catch.
Vázquez scored two batters later after first baseman Owen Miller dropped the relay throw at first on what would have been an inning-ending double play. Miller had to attempt to pick the ball on a short hop after Devers forced a tough relay throw from second baseman Andrés Giménez.
“The hustle play by him to get to second base where he put pressure on the second baseman was a great play,” Cora said. “Forget the hits and everything else; that play was huge for us.”
Two innings later, Trevor Story padded the lead with a two-run single that was just out of the reach of left fielder Ernie Clement. The Guardians entered play on Sunday with a .984 field percentage, just under the league average of .985.
Sunday’s showing concluded a strong series for Duran, who batted .400 with two doubles, an RBI and two stolen bases in three games against Cleveland . While he’ll be unable to play in the team’s upcoming series against Toronto due to Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, he should slot right back into center field when the Red Sox return home from their three-city road trip on July 4 to face the Rays.
While the Red Sox will no doubt miss Duran and closer Tanner Houck in Toronto, Rich Hill made sure Boston’s pitching staff is in a good place, giving up just one run on five hits over six innings. Ryan Brasier, Hansel Robles and Houck finished off the win.
“I made some big pitches in some big situations and the double play really saved us,” Hill said. “We played some great defense. Little bit of a rough go of it in the beginning, but navigated and put us in a position to win.”
Monday starts a crucial stretch for the Red Sox, as 20 of their next 23 games will be against American League East opponents. On Friday, they entered Cleveland in third place in the AL East with only a half game lead in the Wild Card race. They’ll head to Toronto in second place with a 1 1/2 game lead for the top Wild Card spot.
“Toronto’s one of the big boys in the division,” Cora said. “They’ve been playing well. It’s going to be a challenge, but we’re ready for it.”

Looking at the pitching matchups every night, I was thinking it was going to be a tough series. Even if they weren't a good team, sweeping a team is difficult, especially on the road. Give the Red Sox some credit here.

Fenway & sports at its finest. I remember when Eddie Giacomen returned to MSG. The crowd started chanting "Ed-die, Ed-die". Like ten minutes. The announcers were saying tears were streaming from his eyes. When Pedro returned, the crowd was so loud that Pedro couldn't focus. He had a 3.01 coming into the game, allowed 6 ERs, and finished with a 8.74 the rest of the way. He was never the same after that game. And I've had my moments as the father of a good athlete. My daughter went 8-8 from the free throw line in the state HS championship playoffs. The guy next to me screams out "stop fouling #11, she never misses". Or the 8th grade AS game. She scored 1 point in the first half, and I was thinking they might have caught up to her. She scored 13 points in 6 minutes in the 3rd quarter (partly due to being teamed up with a lightening fast point guard from St. Brendan's). Then you hear some very serious people talking about her, and it just doesn't get much better.Good stuff. I love the human element side of the game. I really enjoyed Freeman's return to Atlanta over the weekend. He received a great ovation and Freeman was obviously very emotional. You've posted about your daughter's accomplishments before. She must have been a really good player. Watching your kids play sports is one of the most nerve-racking things, but also one of the most enjoyable things.
