Pete Abraham @peteabe · 11m It's not a lock, but Cora acknowledging Bello is an option suggests he's their leading candidate to start. Otherwise he would have just said no.
Worcester's starter is Sale, so I'm not sure who else it could be. They can't really do two bullpen games in 3 days.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 1h #RedSox are hopeful of Rich Hill getting an MRI on his knee today. Cora: "We’re still the Red Sox, right? We should be able to get something done regardless of whether it’s July 4 or not.”

Chris Hatfield @spchrishatfield · 1m [Windhorst]Why option Seabold?[/Windhorst] If they wind up needing to IL Wacha, they can bring him right back. Keeps the extra bullpen arm until, say, Wednesday when they'd need a spot for Bello. At this point, we need innings. Too many guys out. With Hill, Sale, Eovaldi & maybe Wacha out, we will need a lot of mixing and matching. It would be nice to see the offense show up for one of these games to lessen the pressure.

Look where the 3B is set up for Duran. This is what happens when you make them fear the bunt. They barely have a shift on.

They occasionally show the Monster seats. If this was Yankee Stadium, they would be the equivalent of the last section of the upper deck, and never be sold outside of sellouts. Why anyone pays extra for these seats in Fenway (outside of trying to catch a HR), is beyond me.

Sean McAdam @sean_McAdam For the third straight day, a pitcher makes a throwing error to first base on a relatively routine play.

Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats ·
Arroyo is 8 for his last 20 with 1 strikeout. He's been hitting the ball hard all year. He plays very strong defense. If I were a team talking to the Sox I'd be interested in getting him and giving him a full time job. It's always been freak injuries holding him back.

Boston Red Sox fans give Kutter Crawford standing ovation as he K’s 8 in 5.1 scoreless innings to beat Rays Published: Jul. 04, 2022, 4:34 p.m.
By Christopher Smith | csmith@masslive.com
BOSTON — A planned bullpen game for the Red Sox turned into Kutter Crawford’s game Monday.
Manager Alex Cora replaced opener Austin Davis with Crawford to begin the third inning. The 26-year-old righty pitched into the eighth inning.
He hurled 5 ⅓ scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and one walk while striking out eight.
The Red Sox won 4-0 over the Rays here at Fenway Park on Monday afternoon.
Crawford has tossed 8 ⅓ scoreless innings in two outings against Tampa this season. He has held Rays hitters to three hits and one walk while striking out 13.
Crawford threw 25 cutters, 24 four-seam fastballs, 20 curveballs, 10 changeups and three sliders. His fastball averaged 95 mph, per Baseball Savant.
John Schreiber recorded the final five outs.
Story blasts 13th homer
Trevor Story put the Red Sox ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning when he bashed a 395-foot home run to right-center field. He connected on a changeup from Rays’ Josh Fleming.
Christian Arroyo led off the fifth inning with a double. He scored with two outs on Rafael Devers’ infield single that looked more like an error by second baseman Isaac Paredes.
Arroyo stays hot
Arroyo entered 7-for-19 in his previous seven games. He stayed hot by stroking hits in his first two at-bats Monday.
Austin Davis opened for the Red Sox. He pitched two scoreless and hitless innings. He allowed one walk and struck out two.
Pivetta to start Tuesday
The Red Sox and Rays will play again Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. Nick Pivetta (8-5, 3.23 ERA) will start opposite Jeffrey Springs (3-2, 2.25 ERA).

Boston Red Sox injury updates: Xander Bogaerts still sore; Garrett Whitlock, Nathan Eovaldi to throw up-and-down bullpens Tuesday Updated: Jul. 04, 2022, 1:14 p.m. | Published: Jul. 04, 2022, 1:13 p.m.
By Christopher Smith | csmith@masslive.com
BOSTON — Garrett Whitlock and Nathan Eovaldi will both throw up-and-down bullpen sessions Tuesday here at Fenway Park.
“After that, probably live BP and then we’ll decide what we’re going to do,” manager Alex Cora said.
Whitlock is on the 15-day injured list with right hip inflammation (retroactive to June 9). Eovaldi is on the 15-day injured list with low back inflammation (retroactive to June 9).
Whitlock will be used as a multi-inning reliever when he returns.
Wacha, Hill to get checked out Monday
The Red Sox scratched Michael Wacha from his start Monday because of a heavy, tired feeling in his arm.
“He didn’t recover well from the Toronto one so we’ll give him a few days,” Cora said. “He’s going to get checked out today just in case something is going on. We don’t believe it’s something structural there. It’s just kind of like dead arm, hit the wall. So hopefully we can push him back later in the week and go from there.”
Rich Hill, who Boston placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left knee sprain, also will be checked out Monday.
Bogaerts not in lineup
Xander Bogaerts is not in the lineup Monday. He feels sore after getting spiked and needing seven stitches above his left knee Sunday.
“I always give Bogey ... as long as possible to decide whether he can go,” Cora said. “He texted me early. He was my wake-up text. ‘I’m pretty sore.’ He has a big cut. Hopefully, he feels better tomorrow and we can use him.”
Hernández nearing rehab assignment
Kiké Hernandez, who is on the IL with a right hip flexor strain, is nearing a rehab assignment.
“Looking good, moving well,” Cora said. “Worked early on today. So if everything goes well, he feels like probably over the weekend he’ll go on a rehab assignment.”
