Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday at Fenway Park. It was a massive step forward for Eovaldi, who has been limited to just six second-half starts due to various physical ailments. The 32-year-old right-hander is expected to throw another side session in the coming days before heading out on a brief minor league rehab assignments. Barring any setbacks, fantasy managers should expect him to return sometime in mid-September.

Rays Option Ryan Yarbrough, Recall Garrett Cleavinger By James Hicks | August 27, 2022 at 11:12am CDT
The Rays have optioned left-hander Ryan Yarbrough to Triple-A Durham today and recalled fellow lefty Garrett Cleavinger to take his place, the team announced today. Yarbrough had started last night’s game against the Red Sox, and as the Rays have two days off next week, his next turn in rotation may have been skipped regardless.
More to come.

Brandon Lowe (elbow) is absent from the Rays' starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Red Sox. Lowe was unlikely to get the nod at second base on Saturday with lefty Rich Hill on the mound for the Red Sox, but that became even more certain when he departed Friday's contest with a right elbow contusion after being hit by a 94-mph pitch from Michael Wacha in the early stages of the game. The positive news is that he managed to avoid any structural damage and is considered day-to-day moving forward.

about damn time
Red Sox optioned OF Jarren Duran to Triple-A Worcester. Duran has been abysmal defensively in center field and also hasn't produced at the dish this season, slashing an underwhelming .220/.283/.365 with three home runs and seven steals in 219 plate appearances. The 25-year-old outfielder undoubtedly possesses plenty of raw talent and athleticism, but he simply hasn't been able to take advantage of multiple opportunities over the last two years to claim an everyday role at the highest level.

Red Sox Option Jarren Duran, Activate Trevor Story
By James Hicks | August 27, 2022 at 12:16pm CDT
The Red Sox have optioned outfielder Jarren Duran to Triple-A Worcester, reports Chris Cottilo of MassLive (Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe had earlier reported that Duran’s locker was empty, suggesting such a move had occurred). The move opens a roster spot for the return of Trevor Story, who’s been activated from the 10-day IL and is in the starting lineup for today’s game against the Rays.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 5m Rich Hill has turned the lineup over twice in 5 innings and needed only 70 pitches.
With a 5-0 lead and the bullpen taxed, might be a day to get 6+ from him.
