it is uncanny how the ball finds a new kid or someone playing a different position but Cassas made a couple nice plays at 1B that half inning

The NESN clown booth rambling on about the Yankees collapse meanwhile the Sox are 13 1/2 back and playing out the string. It's an interesting story. Should they ignore? The pitching injuries on the RS is a known story. 34 starts to guys that started the year in AAA. Another 16 starts to guys that started the year in the BP. The Yankee story is far more compelling.

I like Story's bat flip. Nothing fancy, just a quick release at the end of the swing.
I thought that was a good AB by Casas. It would've made a good story if the fly ball made it a few feet further, but he worked the count and wasn't overly anxious.

But they couldn't, and Cordero was ridiculously bad. Casas has a reputation for having a good glove.

Dunning has been a bit wild, but two walks by Wong is a good sign. He has power, and looks like he can stick behind the plate. I never paid much attention to him prior to this year since his K/W was so bad. But he cut that down to 80/27 in AAA this year. That's still too high, but not the 4/1 range we had seen previously.

2nd & 3rd with two outs, and Verdugo strikes out on a 3-2 pitch that bounced before it reached the plate. Bogaerts on deck. Big opportunity that never happened.

Good job by the BP with 5 scoreless innings. Out of the 9 innings, the only one that could be expected was Strahm's. Nice to see Schreiber continue the good work.

Story hits 3-run HR; Sox complete 4-game sweep over Rangers AP
BOSTON (AP) Trevor Story hit a three-run homer over the Green Monster, Xander Bogaerts had his eighth straight multi-hit game and the Boston Red Sox completed a four-game sweep over Texas with a 5-2 victory on Sunday.
The Red Sox now have a five-game winning streak as they're trying to climb back into the AL's wild-card chase. The Rangers have lost eight straight.
''Keep winning series, that's the most important thing,'' Boston manager Alex Cora said. ''We're playing good defense right now, we're playing good baseball.''
Bogaerts, who can opt out of his contract after this season, had an RBI double and run-scoring single in his three hits, raising his average to .317. His stretch is the longest for a Boston player since Kevin Youkilis tied the club record with nine in 2007.
''I do believe finally he feels good at the plate,'' Cora said of Bogaerts. ''He feels good with his hands and his balance.''
Adolis Garcia had an RBI double for Texas, which lost for the 15th time in its last 18 games in Fenway Park and fell to a season-worst 17 games under .500. It's the Rangers' longest skid since a 12-gamer last season.
''We need to find a way to win ... We would have liked to have won this one, but we didn't, so we need to focus on the next game and give ourselves a chance to win one ballgame,'' Texas interim manager Tony Beasley said.
Boston's highly touted prospect Triston Casas made his major-league debut, going 1 for 4 with an infield single and had a nice backhand stab of a hard grounder playing first.
''It was everything I visualized,'' he said. ''I had seen it before. ... Top of the lineup setting the tone, topped off by Trev's home run. I was a fan up until (that) point. Getting to see Trevor hit that home run was awesome. Calmed my nerves going into my first AB.''
He flew out deep to right in his first at-bat. His single came in the fifth.
Reliever Kaleb Ort (1-1) was credited with his first MLB victory, getting five outs after starter Josh Winckowski was pulled with the Red Sox leading after four innings. John Schreiber got the final three outs for his seventh save.
Rangers starter Dane Dunning (3-8) took the loss and is winless in his last 26 road starts, the majors' longest active streak. His only career road victory came Sept. 9, 2020 with the White Sox. Dunning gave up five runs on eight hits in four innings.
Story had three hits Sunday, including when he drove a low, inside sinker into the second row of seats during a four-run first inning. Bogaerts' double made it 1-0 after Texas scored twice.
Bogaerts added an RBI single in the second.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Red Sox: Cora gave J.D. Martinez and OF/INF Kike Hernandez the day off. . RHP Kutter Crawford was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
GLOVE WORK
Story made a leaping grab of Jonah Heim's liner and a nice swipe tag on the foot of Leody Taveras, who was attempting to steal second. Both plays came in the sixth.
''It was fun. I hit the ball hard a few times,'' Story said of his day. ''Help out the pitcher when we can. All around a pretty fun game. ... I would probably say that was my highest jump.''
KEUCHEL OUT
The Rangers designated LHP Dallas Keuchel before the game and recalled LHP John King from Triple-A Round Rock.
The 34-year-old Keuchel was 0-2 with a 12.60 ERA in two starts for the Rangers, and 2-9 with a 9.20 ERA in 14 combined starts with the White Sox, Arizona and Texas this season.
UP NEXT
Rangers: LHP Martin Perez (10-5, 2.89 ERA) is slated to start the opener of a three-game series in Houston Monday. RHP Hunter Brown is scheduled to make his major-league debut for the Astros.
Red Sox: RHP Michael Wacha (10-1, 2.56) looks to keep his current solid run going Monday at the Tampa Bay Rays. He has a 2.19 ERA in four starts after coming off the IL on August 14 following a stint with right shoulder inflammation. The Rays' starter is TBD.

Trevor Story, Xander Bogaerts power Boston Red Sox to 5-2 win, series sweep over Rangers; Triston Casas gets first MLB hit

BOSTON -- For the first time since late June, the Red Sox took out their brooms Sunday afternoon.
Boston scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and went on to beat the Rangers, 5-2, to finish off a four-game sweep at Fenway Park. After Texas plated two runs in the top of the first, Boston stormed back with a rally -- plating three runs on Trevor Story’s 16th homer of the year -- and improved to 67-68 with the club’s fifth straight win.
Righty Josh Winckowski, thrust into emergency duty with Kutter Crawford scratched due to a shoulder impingement, ran into instant trouble as Adolis García put the Rangers up 1-0 with an RBI ground-rule double and Jonah Heim drove in another run with a groundout. But Boston hit Rangers starter Dane Dunning hard from the jump, with Tommy Pham and Alex Verdugo each hitting singles before Xander Bogaerts cut the deficit in half with a ground-rule double of his own. Two batters later, Story took launch at one of the signs over the Green Monster to put the Red Sox up, 4-2.
Winckowski settled in and put up three straight scoreless innings and the Sox added an insurance run in the second on a Bogaerts RBI single. Seven different Red Sox hitters had three hits, with Bogaerts and Story leading the way with three apiece. John Schreiber got the save for the second straight day, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.
Boston’s last sweep came from June 24-26, when the club took three straight games against the Guardians at Progressive Field. Despite the success against Texas, the Sox still face an uphill climb to reach the postseason. As of Sunday afternoon, they are 7½ games out of a wild card spot with 27 games to go.
Story, Bogaerts lead charge
Story (3-for-4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI) was a triple short of the cycle and also made a fantastic play in the field, jumping to snag a line drive off the bat of Jonah Heim. He’s hitting .464 (13-for-28) in seven games since being reinstated from the injured list on Aug. 27.
Bogaerts (3-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI) now leads the American League with a .317 average. He collected 3+ hits for the 15th time this season, tying Minnesota’s Luis Arraez for the most in the AL. It was his eighth straight game with multiple hits, which is the longest active streak in the majors. The last Red Sox hitter to do that was Kevin Youkilis (9 games in 2007).
Casas gets first big league hit, shines in field
Triston Casas’ major-league debut doesn’t shine bright in the box score but was still an impressive one. Casas recorded his first career hit (an infield single in the fifth) and made hard contact two other times, including a flyout to the warning track in right in his first at-bat.
Casas also made a series of impressive plays in the field, including two straight in the first inning.
Trip to St. Pete next
The Red Sox will hit the road for a six-game, seven-day road trip that begins Monday afternoon. They’ll start with three games at Tropicana Field against the second-place Rays. Here are the pitching probables:
Monday, 4:10 p.m. ET -- RHP Michael Wacha (10-1, 2.56 ERA) vs. TBD
Tuesday, 6:40 p.m. ET -- LHP Rich Hill (6-5, 4.52 ERA) vs. RHP Drew Rasmussen (9-4, 2.70 ERA)
Wednesday, 6:40 p.m. ET -- TBD (possibly RHP Nick Pivetta) vs. LHP Jeffrey Springs (7-4, 2.62 ERA)
