Ian Browne @ianmbrowne Sloppy day for the Red Sox on defense today.
Somehow, the Red Sox win this game, 1-0. Not their finest performance. But it's a big-league win as Alex Cora would say.
Obscure but interesting fact. Pivetta becomes the first Red Sox starter to have a 1-0 loss and win by that same score in back-to-back starts since Earl Johnson in 1947. Johnson then lost 1-0 again in the third start of that sequence. Thanks to @_dadler for digging that out. 6:56 PM · Apr 3, 2024 ·
Just as we're touting how good the Sox defense is, they had a few miscues yesterday. That said, while Rafaela missed a tough catch that hit off his glove and allowed a double, he also made a pretty spectacular catch to save that run. Pivetta was not real sharp, but he was good enough to get the job done. The offense has been a little suspect at times. At any rate, it's been a pretty good road trip so far.

I watch the replays and am not shocked at the miscues guys getting picked off. Has been the norm in Boston for a few years.
And the pitching has been fine, but would like some more length from the starters.
It is good they are making hay schedule wise even if on the West coast.

I think the offense will be sketchy all year, but that might be the price for having better defense.

It is good they are making hay schedule wise even if on the West coast.I would like to see 6 or 7 innings out of our starters, but sadly, it seems like just over 5 innings has become the new norm. Cora's mantra this year for his starters is '5 or more innings'. So far, so good. I'd like to win at least 2 out of 3 against the Angels. That would be a really successful road trip. At the very least, avoid getting swept.

That said, I do expect much better from our 2, 3, and 4 guys, Story, Devers, and Casas.
