Embrace The Tank Tour rolls on Yankees @ Red Sox Sunday September 20th 1pm @ Fenway
Garcia 2-1/ 3.28
Has won his last 2 starts, each with 7ip and 6ks. Idolizes Pedro Martinez which should make his first start at Fenway memorable.
Houck 1-0/ 0.00
Will try and follow up his great debut vs the Marlins where he struck out seven over 5. His first ever start vs the Yankees.
Streaking Yankees look to sweep Red Sox FLM
The New York Yankees look to extend a number of gaudy streaks on Sunday when they conclude their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
For starters, the Yankees (31-21) have outscored the opposition 85-25 en route to winning a season-best 10 in a row.
Secondly, New York has won 12 straight games against its bitter rival -- a stretch that matches a franchise record that was set on two previous occasions.
And let's take into account that the Yankees have won five straight at Fenway Park, matching their longest streak since a five-game run from Sept. 28, 2014-July 10, 2015.
Individually, New York has seen Clint Frazier consistently come through at the plate -- and he even saved a bug during Saturday's 8-0 romp over Boston (19-34).
Outside of his life-saving endeavors, Frazier homered among his three hits and drove in three runs on Saturday to improve to 19-for-56 with four homers, 14 RBIs and 13 runs scored in his last 16 games.
"He's comfortable here. He definitely feels like he's a contributing member of the team," said catcher Kyle Higashioka, who has been both a minor league and major league teammate of Frazier.
"The maturity level is very impressive. He's working hard every day, taking his defense very seriously. Really concentrating on having good at-bats every time. It's pretty impressive to see."
DJ LeMahieu carries a 12-game hitting streak (19-for-50, six homers, 12 RBIs and 17 runs scored) into the series finale, while Gio Urshela is riding a career-best nine-game hitting streak (14-for-36, one homer, six RBIs and six runs scored).
New York rookie right-hander Deivi Garcia (2-1, 3.28 ERA) looks to ride the momentum of two strong seven-inning outings when he takes the mound on Sunday. The 21-year-old will be getting his first taste of the rivalry on Sunday when he makes his fifth career major league start.
Garcia wears a belt with the No. 45 on it, which pays homage to his idol Pedro Martinez -- a three-time Cy Young Award recipient and Red Sox star.
"He's a legend here," Garcia said through an interpreter. "A lot of exciting games here in this stadium. My dad even told me about all of those great games and everything going on. He told me to go out there and do the best you can for your team."
Boston right-hander Tanner Houck (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the nod on Sunday after a sterling performance in his major league debut. The 24-year-old, who was a first-round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2017, scattered two hits and struck out seven over five innings in a 2-0 win at Miami on Tuesday.
"For me, nothing really changes," Houck said of facing the Yankees. "As long as you go out there and attack the zone, I think good things happen. If you go right at people and get them on their heels early, it sets up a lot more.
"Typically, whenever you're behind in hitters' counts, a lot of people become more dangerous. Just go out there and attack right away, and I'll definitely feel real confident," Houck said.
Boston outfielder Alex Verdugo sat out Saturday with left hamstring soreness, with manager Ron Roenicke not saying whether Verdugo would play Sunday.

Each game watching JD bat is becoming more difficult to watch a player in decline or 1 that doesn`t want to be here. Last 10 games 3-40 with 17 Ks. Say what you want but he has become a terrible player. I'm not trying to bash JD because I like him and I think he will return more to his norm next year, but yes, he is extremely difficult to watch right now. I have zero confidence in him when he comes to the plate.
I don't think it's a matter of him not wanting to be there. I think his slump is really messing with his head and his confidence right now.

On the plus side, Barnes pitched two scoreless innings against the Yanks in the 2018 ALDS, both in one-run games won by the Red Sox. I'm not down on Barnes like many people are. IMO, he's a better pitcher than what his results often yield.
Good to have you here Hfx. Like we told JoeyB, please change your avitar. The closed-eyed shadow head is kind of creepy. LOL

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 6h Assuming that's it for him after 113 pitches, JA Happ has a 2.05 ERA vs. the Red Sox in 18 starts dating back to 2015. Happ is having himself a good season, though with very weak peripherals by comparison. Either way, there is no excuse for the Sox being dominated by him.

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 7h On batter 21 of the game, the Red Sox got their second three-ball count of the night. They still have no walks. Their 7.8% BB rate this year ranks 26th in MLB.
Julian McWilliams @byjulianmack · 8h Red Sox came into this game having committed 37 errors, second-most in baseball behind just the Pirates. On a bright note, the Sox rank 2nd in baseball, behind only the Rays, in the ARM component of UZR.

Houck’s wish to be realized on Sunday
By Bill Koch Journal Sports Writer
BOSTON — Sunday will mark a second dream come true in a week for Tanner Houck.
His first was realized on Tuesday when the Red Sox right-hander made his debut in the big leagues. Houck fired five scoreless innings and struck out seven in a 2-0 win over the Marlins.
The 24-year-old’s upcoming matchup with the rival Yankees figures to carry with it a higher degree of difficulty. Houck will take the Fenway Park mound for the afternoon finish to this three-game series. Boston could be attempting to fend off a sweep after suffering a 6-5, 12-inning loss in Friday’s opener.
“Ever since I got drafted it’s been a goal of mine to pitch here at Fenway,” Houck said. “It’s such a historic ballpark — over 100 years of history in this ballpark alone. Truly, truly honored to get the start tomorrow and pitch in such a historic stadium.”
Pitching has been a glaring hole for the Red Sox this season. The club’s 5.91 earned-run average into Saturday night ranked last in the majors and would set a franchise worst. That’s why Houck’s relatively sharp debut against Miami — coupled with the organization’s struggles in drafting and developing its own starters — received such fanfare.
“I think it will be good coming off the game he had,” Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said. “He should have a lot of confidence. This is a very right-handed lineup, so that should work to his advantage.”
Eduardo Rodriguez was the last Boston rookie starter to win his debut, covering 7 2/3 innings against the Rangers in May 2015. The left-hander finished sixth in the American League Cy Young voting last season, and even a fraction of that progress from Houck could earn him a place in next year’s rotation. The Red Sox could use the help with Chris Sale (left elbow) uncertain for Opening Day and Rodriguez (myocarditis) sidelined throughout this season.
“It’s got its own new challenges with everything,” Houck said. “A lot more scouting report info to take in, which I love. Being able to go out there and know my opponent just a little bit more helps me set up a game plan a lot.”
New York crushed 19 home runs in a three-game sweep of the Blue Jays earlier this week, setting a major-league record. The Yankees went 26 outs without a round-tripper on Friday before Gary Sanchez ran into a hanging curveball from Matt Barnes. The wicked liner just over the Green Monster snuffed out a 4-3 deficit and Boston eventually yielded in the third extra frame.
“They definitely have a good lineup,” Houck said. “They’ve shown obviously they can hit the ball. Not just home runs, but also putting men on base.
“All confidence going into it. I know what I have in my skill set. It’s just about executing pitches and doing what I’ve done for years now.”
Houck reached Triple-A Pawtucket for the first time last season, making 16 appearances. He was back at McCoy Stadium to start this year, working at the alternate site with the hopes of being selected to the 40-man roster and recalled to the big leagues. Houck impressed in intrasquad action while being mentored by PawSox pitching coach Paul Abbott and Shawn Haviland, the organization’s pitching coordinator for performance.
“He’ll have that two-seamer and that slider forever,” Haviland said on Friday. “Those are top-quality major-league pitches. Now he has the ability to throw the four-seamer and the splitter to have a little bit of contrast against lefties. It was like a whole new game for him.”
Houck scuffled throughout the minor-league ranks while attempting to retire left-handers, prompting speculation he could be moved to the bullpen. His three-quarter delivery creates natural run on his two-seam fastball and significant lateral movement on his slider. But Houck needed at least one more pitch he could spot on the inside edge or move away from left-handers that allows him to work on both sides of the plate.
“There were a couple of weeks here where it was tough,” Haviland said. “He was giving up a lot of loud contact to lefties and righties because he was pitching outside his comfort zone. He was able to power through it and just really focused on controlling his delivery and getting his arm slot just a touch higher so he could command to both sides.
“Once it kind of clicked in for him, it was really fun to watch because then we could sort of give him back his weapons.”

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 6h The Red Sox are 0-9 this year against the Yankees. They can finish no better than 1-9 against them. 2020 will represent the most lopsided drubbing the Red Sox have ever taken in a season series against the Yankees, surpassing the 1927 (4-18, .182) standard Yes, the Yankees have owned us over the past two seasons. It's time to put a stop to this crap.
