Folks are howling for Houck and yeah, it is easy to say that but the kid would not be pitching a full season at this level.
the back end guys are keeping Sale's spot warm
besides, as shaky as Pivetta has been, this team has proven to me all ready, they are not out of it. To Pivetta's credit, he limited the damage and ended up having a decent line. Not great by any means, but again, keeping the team in the game.
The offense will win the large majority of those games.
Also, I agree on Houck. No need to rush him up when the staff is pitching well enough.

What else do I like, with my rose-colored glasses on?
Andriese with another big outing. A nice low-end addition, so far. Taylor-A gem of a one-batter outing. I didn't notice it before today, but maybe Cora is targeting Taylor to close out innings featuring 1-2 lefty batters. It allows Cora to use him as a lefty specialist, while not exposing him to the 3-batter minimum. It feels a little early to make a judgement, but it is beginning to feel like Dalbec/Hernandez and Kike/Renfroe/Cordero are in a bit of a platoon. Which is brought to you by Arroyo claiming 2B. Is it too early to say that Arroyo has claimed 2nd? It's partially the result of small numbers, but Vazquez is on pace for only 104 starts at catcher. I think we struck gold with Plawecki as backup catcher. 4-1 in a not completely meaningless stat. I waited until The RS cut the deficit to 2-1 before my well-deserved nap. I only mention this because, even though Pivetta pitched badly, he also didn't crack. Down 2-1 in the 3rd (before we tied it), I wasn't feeling uncomfortable. This is also a testament to having 9 guys in the BP. In a game like this, our BP depth can prove decisive. Cora is finding ways to allow his players to be successful and to build confidence. Even with Taylor only coming in for 1 batter, you could see some confidence in his stride walking off the field. During the offseason, I thought Arroyo was a good choice for 2B. But once we signed Kike, I figured he would own that spot. Until he shows otherwise, I'm sure that Arroyo will get plenty of playing time at 2B. With 9 relievers, Cora is able to regularly use the pen for roughly 4 innings and still not overuse anyone I am a fan of back up catchers, in general. I really like Plawecki. I'm not sure how many starts he will end up getting, but I am fine when he starts a game in place of Vaz. Cora is doing a good job of keeping everyone fresh.
