Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 1h Cora, jokingly, on players like Arroyo, Verdugo, Devers, etc. -- 'They're Little Leaguers. They're slamming helmets and they get upset.' #RedSox
Cora on Arroyo -- 'They loved the way he turned the double play last year. Quick, short arm, good arm strength.'
'He's been great at second. The numbers show it. Small sample size, but he's been good.' #RedSox
Cora on his rotation -- 'We're going through a stretch here that's pretty tough.'
'I think (Houston) had a lot to do with what is going on right now.' #RedSox

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 1h Cora -- 'That Thursday (off day) is going to be gold for us in Kansas City. We've just got to grind.' #RedSox
Cora -- 'Time will tell. Nobody thought our rotation was going to do what they've done through 63 games.'
'We trust them. We know they're going. We're just going through a rough patch right here.' #RedSox
Cora on Whitlock -- 'Yesterday was kind of what we envision with him now. We get him in there if we have a lead or if it's a tie game for six outs.'
'He's not a Rule 5 guy. He might be by rules, but as far as his stuff he's part of the equation.' #RedSox

Boston Red Sox injuries: Tanner Houck’s next step is to throw to hitters; Xander Bogaerts ‘feeling better’ Updated 2:30 PM; Today 2:28 PM
By Christopher Smith | csmith@masslive.com
BOSTON — Tanner Houck’s next step in his throwing program is to face hitters.
Houck (sore flexor muscle) has not pitched in a game since May 4 for Triple-A Worcester.
“He had an up-and-down (bullpen session) the other day,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday. “The next step is to face hitters. But he already had an up-and-down, which is good. He’s been bouncing back great. Now it’s facing hitters and then the next step we’ll see if it’s him getting into games. But we feel really good.”
Houck is 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA (27 ⅓ innings, six earned runs) in six outings, including five starts, for the Red Sox the past two years.
The 24-year-old has pitched in three games and made two starts for Boston this year. He has allowed five earned runs in 10 ⅓ innings.
Connor Seabold (elbow inflammation) remains in Fort Myers where he continues his throwing program.
Bogaerts ‘feeling better’
Xander Bogaerts is not in the Red Sox lineup against Blue Jays on Saturday. He was scratched from the lineup Friday because of a sore left knee. He banged the knee diving for a ball Thursday against the Astros.
Cora said Bogaerts told him he’s feeling better.
“He’s doing OK,” Cora said. “I just saw him walking in. He’s going to get treatment. Obviously stay away from him today. We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow. I’m not in a rush (with) this one because of just how important he is. ... So if we have to stay away from him tomorrow, we’ll do it, too. The hope is for him to play tomorrow. He hasn’t run yet. He hasn’t moved around. He just got here to get treatment. And he’s like, ‘I’m feeling better.’”
Brasier still resting
Ryan Brasier is resting after being released from the hospital with a concussion. He is not yet taking part in any baseball activities.
The Red Sox reliever was struck in the head with a line drive while pitching in a simulated game in Fort Myers, Fla., on June 4.

Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 5h Whitlock is tightening up the release points on his three pitches, as seen below. Better tunneling.
His slider usage has gone from 4% in April to 11% in May to 30% in June. Thrown almost exclusively to RHH, it's been nasty: .222 BA, .222 SLG, 36% whiff rate.

Ben Nicholson-Smith @bnicholsonsmith ·
Eye test & numbers in agreement on #BlueJays' bullpen lately.
Since May 20, when Red Sox rallied off Dolis to score 3 in 9th & win, Jays' bullpen has a combined 5.51 ERA (4.94 FIP) with 5.79 BB/9 over 65.1 innings.
Worth -1.2 WAR during that time, last among the 30 MLB teams.
Has been clear for a while Jays need relief help. More apparent than ever after a game where forearm tightness kept Jordan Romano on the sidelines (https://sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-romano-misses-fridays-game-vs-red-sox-forearm-tightness/)
Won't be surprised at all if Patrick Murphy joins MLB roster before long. He has 3 scoreless AAA outings
And along with that, #BlueJays should be looking to help their bullpen via trade, of course
With 101 games left, the resources to trade for help and the AL MVP frontrunner, wait for next year shouldn’t be a consideration right now.

and here we go
eegan Matheson @keeganmatheson · 19m The #BlueJays have added LHP Tayler Saucedo to the active roster.
Jeremy Beasley optioned to AAA. A.J. Cole transferred to the 60-day IL.
Saucedo has posted a 2.20 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 2 walks in AAA this season (16.1 IP).
A former starter and swingman, he's capable of going multiple innings if (when) the #BlueJays need.
A.J. Cole's move to the 60-day IL comes with a new injury, this time a left oblique strain.
He was originally on the IL with a neck strain. Cole had looked good in limited 2021 appearances. #BlueJays

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 3m No. 20 for Vladdy Jr. was a no-doubter.
He's a big, strong guy. But what a beautiful, balanced swing.
