Red Sox Notes @soxnotes · 46m Red Sox starters have a 3.11 ERA in their last 15 games, their lowest mark over any 15-game span this season.
During that time, Nathan Eovaldi and Chris Sale have combined for a 1.55 ERA with 36 strikeouts and 3 walks. We need more consistency. I believe in the entire rotation, but they don't show up every start. ERod is still in and out. Same with Eovaldi. A couple of good games, then a stinker. Two good, then two stinkers. Now he has 3 good ones, but it is difficult to have a lot of faith that he can maintain that.

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 3h Replying to @billkoch25 Alex Cora on Jarren Duran -- 'It was a good learning experience for him to be around us and understand what it takes to be a big leaguer. He's not the first promising rookie to get sent down.' #RedSox
Cora on Duran -- 'We'll be patient. There are a few things he has to work on defensively and running the bases, bunting a little more.'
'We gave him the homework.' #RedSox
Cora referring to fast outfielders who were promoted and ultimately sent down again by the #RedSox -- obviously a Jacoby Ellsbury nod to 2007.
Cora on Duran -- 'I think the best thing for him is to get at-bats down there and keep working on the things he was working on here.'
'He's part of the future.' #RedSox

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 3h Matt Barnes remains the #RedSox closer.
Cora -- 'We're not pleased we gave up the lead. He's been having his struggles. But at the end of the day the stuff is still there.'
Darwinzon Hernandez currently throwing a bullpen at Fenway. Ryan Brasier and Danny Santana are at Double-A Portland tonight. #RedSox

It is not a play off team the silence by the front office at the deadline showed usI don't think it reflects the FO's opinion of the team. The prices being paid this year were the most expensive I have ever seen. The WS gave up their starting 2B for the next 5 years for Kimbrel (0-1, 5.79). TO gave up maybe their two best prospects for Berrios (1-1, 3.80), the NYMs gave up the #19 from 2019 for Baez (.672 OPS). There is no way I'd be given up that type of minor league talent, even if we had that type of minor league talent.

Lead off triple for the Twins guess it could be time for another team meeting.

Ian Browne @ianmbrowne · 4m The hope this year is by putting Arroyo at second and Schwarber at first, you get your Verdugo-Hernandez-Renfroe alignment back in the outfield. It's not like Schwarber's defense at first can be that much worse than what they've had there. And you upgrade in three other spots. ======================= I agree with Browne on this one. Schwarber-Arroyo-Kike in there every night gives us our best lineup.

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 5m Hunter Renfroe once again hangs out in the box after a swing. This time, the ball went about 370 feet further than the last. Three-run homer - his MLB-leading 9th of August - puts the Sox up, 4-3. ========================================== We got a little lucky here. I really liked Renfroe when he was with SD. Before he got hurt in 2019, he had 27 HRs in 266 ABs at the AS game, with good defense. I was really hoping to acquire him, but went to TB. Fortunately, for us, he had a weak season, and TB had a surplus of outfielders.
That said, how is it possible that no one else wanted to trade for him? He had a lot of Ks, but this was always a very solid player, and only cost $3M.

This felt like a perfect game for Richards to come in. I have a lot more faith in Richards, who's been good out of the BP, than Perez. I know they want to save the BP, but we have no more room for losses.

slop baseball again Sox score often and of course can't hold onto a lead against the Twins even though they are up 11-9 in the 9th as Matt Barnes is melting down again and he just gets the hook.....fans boo the hell out of him.....good.

Houck can only give 4.2 innings but Sox are up big....so Martin Perez comes in and shits the bed first Sawawarma who now takes a minute in between pitches shits the bed
and Matt Barnes with a 3 run lead can't get anyone out allows a home run, a single and a god damn walk
Robles comes in, and he stinks too.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 1m It would seem Alex Cora has little choice but to drop Barnes out of the closer's spot, at least temporarily.
* Move Ottavino up?
* Whitlock?
* Sawamura?
* Taylor?
* Houck?
* Somebody else?

Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 1h Jorge Polanco to the Monster Seats and it's 9-6 in the 7th. Martin Perez gave back three runs and is gone after 1 1/3 IP. Hirokazu Sawamura on.
That kind of outing -- six-run lead, four outs recorded -- spelled the end of Austin Brice. Could argue it should here, too. #RedSox
