Red Sox @ Indians Saturday, 28th August 2021 4pm @ Progressive Field
Eovaldi 10-8/3.72
Eovaldi permitted just one unearned run over seven innings but received a no-decision in the Red Sox' 8-4 extra-innings win over the Rangers. Eovaldi was brilliant in giving up only four singles, not walking anyone and fanning seven batters. The only run to score while the right-hander was in did so in the fifth inning when the Red Sox made a pair of errors behind him.
Quantrill 4-2/3.04
Quantrill delivered a dominant performance in Sunday's victory over the Angels in the Little League Classic in Williamsport, racking up nine strikeouts over seven shutout innings. The right-hander scattered just two hits -- both singles -- and two walks on the evening. Quantrill threw 94 pitches (64 strikes) in his seven frames, generating 11 swinging strikes and posting a CSW of 31 percent. Quantrill has been outstanding since joining the Indians rotation and now boasts a 3.04 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 89/36 K/BB ratio across 109 2/3 innings on the season.
Red Sox look to keep winning on road at Indians According to STATS
Jonathan Arauz went from a last-minute call-up to delivering the key hit in the nick of time for the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox look to ride the momentum of their emotional victory over the host Cleveland Indians into the second contest of a three-game set on Saturday.
Arauz was summoned prior to Friday's game after Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo were placed on the COVID-19 injured list. The 23-year-old left his Triple-A Worcester teammates in Buffalo, N.Y., and joined the Red Sox approximately 90 minutes before the start of the contest.
"Everything happened really quick," Arauz said through a translator.
Quick also describes the manner in which the series opener changed as Arauz belted a three-run homer in the eighth inning of Boston's 4-3 win.
"We've seen it around the league, right? If you want to look back at when the Yankees started getting hot, it was guys who came up from Triple-A and played good baseball for a while, and they (the Yankees) got healthy and they are where they are now," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.
"These are the circumstances, right? We have to live with it. We're not going to make excuses and I think every team has to go through it."
Bobby Dalbec is 5-for-8 with two homers and seven RBIs in his last three games for Boston.
Friday's comeback win was appreciated by the Red Sox, who had lost four consecutive road games and 11 of their last 13 away from home overall.
Boston right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (10-8, 3.72 ERA) will look to continue his strong pitching when he takes the mound on Saturday.
Eovaldi, 31, has allowed three earned runs on 14 hits with 23 strikeouts over his last three outings (19 innings). He surrendered an unearned run on four hits in seven innings of a no-decision against the Texas Rangers on Monday.
Eovaldi owns a 3-2 record with a 3.28 ERA in six career appearances (three starts) versus Cleveland.
Jose Ramirez, who is 1-for-8 in his career against Eovaldi, launched his 30th homer of the season with a two-run shot on Friday. He is batting .360 (18-for-50) with 11 extra-base hits and 14 RBIs in his last dozen games.
Yu Chang has homered in a career-best three straight games. He is batting .400 (6-for-15) with four RBIs and five runs scored in his last four contests.
"I try to be stable every single day and do my routine work every day," Chang said through a translator. "I'm not worried about if I play tonight or not. My mood is stable and everything is consistent."
The Indians will turn to right-hander Cal Quantrill (4-2, 3.04) on Saturday.
Quantrill, 26, improved to 4-0 in his last nine outings on Sunday after scattering two hits and striking out nine batters in seven innings of a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Quantrill has yet to face the Red Sox in his career.

The latest Rule 5 pick to help save the Red Sox
By Rob Bradford 15 minutes ago
Rule 5 picks aren't supposed to leave these types of marks. Their existences typically involve finding a way to be stashed on a major league roster just long enough to continue the logical development throughout the minor leagues the following season.
Best-case scenario, that's usually how it works.
The Red Sox have officially adjusted that best-case scenario.
First, and most notably, they found a player in Garrett Whitlock who is firmly in the American League Rookie of the Year conversation thanks to hiss 2021 evolution. All things considered, this was though to be a once-in-a-lifetime Rule 5 find. That story has been one of the Red Sox' most talked-about hat-hangers all season long.
Then there is Jonathan Araúz.
Like Whitlock, his story was already a somewhat unexpected one. He the Red Sox' Rule 5 pick from 2020, living life as a 20-year-old in the major leagues despite having played just 28 games at his highest minor league level, Double-A, the year before.
The notion of not returning a Rule 5 player last season, however, wasn't so out-of-the-ordinary considering it was just a two-month season and the Red Sox were going nowhere, anyway.
But where they have landed with Araúz a year later is the true feather in the Sox' decision-making cap.
The former Astros' farmhand woke up Saturday morning the latest Red Sox hero. having made up for two missed bunt attempts with a game-changing, three-run, eighth-inning home run Friday night. To date, the swing -- which handed the Sox a 4-3 win over Cleveland -- was one of the biggest of this playoff push.
“I was actually upset at myself during the first couple of pitches, I didn’t get the bunt down," Araúz said through a translator. "I just took some time to myself and kind of kept my head up and said, 'OK, if I didn’t get the bunt down, I have to move him over somehow, move the runners, get good contact, I’ve got to do something and make up for missing a bunt.' And thank God I was able to put a good swing on that pitch and hit the ball out.”
When Kiké Hernandez (COVID) and Christian Arroyo (close contact) were taken out of action, it was Araúz (and Yairo Munoz) who the Red Sox turned to. Not another top prospect. In the Red Sox' eyes, this was a guy who had shed any Rule 5 labels to become a legitimate major-league option.
And that one swing served as his punctuation.
After the game everyone was latching on to the story of how Araúz arrived in Cleveland -- having to be woken up out of his bed in Buffalo, hopping on a bus and arriving at Progressive Field just 1 1/2 hours before first pitch.
“I was actually sleeping in the hotel when they called," he said. "They called at around 1 just to let me know I had to get up in a hurry and get luggage real quick and get to the stadium as fast as possible, get that bus to get over here. Yeah, everything happened really quick.”
But the real story is why and how he got that call at all.
Who knows what kind of major leaguer Araúz becomes. But for the time being we do know that he is someone who came out of nowhere to play in 42 big-league games and now has played hero at a time the Red Sox needed it the most.
"The good thing is we put ourselves in a situation to win the series right away and we’ve been talking about that," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. "You don't have to win 30 in a row, you just have to keep winning series, and it felt good. We grinded today. One of those that like I always tell you guys, 162 is real. It’s not fake. It’s not 60 sprints, although last year there was a World Series champ, last year was a sprint. This year you have to deal with a lot of stuff. Roster moves, injured guys, it’s 162. It’s very gratifying when kids like Jonathan come up and -- he didn’t do the job when we put the bunt sign, then he was patient enough and got a pitch up in the zone and he hit a laser to right field. Those are fun. That’s why I do this. To enjoy stuff like this. I know I suffer and I get frustrated but this is very gratifying and all the sacrifices the organization has to go through with everything that goes on and in every organization, games like that, it’s like yeah, this is why we’re back, this is why we’re here."

#Phillies and #Pirates have 17 bunt hits, most in baseball. #RedSox have an #MLB-worst 3. 1-According to BR, the RS have 5 SH, not 3. 2-SH's are a function of how well or poorly your team hits. Teams that have a solid 1-9 don't sacrifice nearly as often as teams that have weak lineups. The three best scoring teams in the AL also rank 13th, 14th, and 15th in sacrifices. 3-Comparing the RS to two NL teams, who have pitchers that hit, in inane. 4-Finally, a player missing a bunt is not an indictment of the entire organization. I have argued, for a long time, that part of the issue with the bunt is that they don't always work. It does not show up in the stats, anywhere, but a lot of players start off 0-1 or 0-2 on failed bunt attempts. Bunts are not automatic.

Would be nice to see Tito, and Demarlo Hale's name will be in the news blotter this winter....bit of buzz that Blue Jays may be making a change if they don't get into the dance... Hale would be a good fit there, heck, served as bench boss under Gibby.
Bill Koch @billkoch25 · 15m Cora said he texted with Terry Francona on Friday. Cleveland's manager could make an appearance at the ballpark on Saturday. He's on leave due to health reasons for the remainder of 2021 -- former #RedSox coach DeMarlo Hale is serving as interim manager.
Cora describes Hale as 'detail-oriented' and 'very passionate about the game.'
Notes that Hale is also a rather successful fantasy football owner when it comes to the annual clubhouse leagues. #RedSox
Cora said he's 'very surprised' Hale hasn't received a managerial opportunity yet. #RedSox
