Matt Kawahara @matthewkawahara Diekman walked Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette singled and Teoscar Hernandez lined a three-run homer to left. A's trail by four again. ==================================================== That's the problem with walking lead-off hitters, even the really good hitters. It can lead to big innings. Especially with a deep lineup like the Jays.

Austin Davis in for the 6th Red Sox will not allow Houck to go thru an order 3 times thru and he was rolling today......whatever
His Line:
5ip/ 3/0/0/0bb/7k/68-47
and Davis allows a 2b to start the inning

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 3m For those puzzled by Houck's removal (reasonable!), Cora let him stay in for the sixth in his last start against Cleveland. Houck got the first batter, then went HR, HBP, HBP before getting lifted. The only other time Cora left him in for the 6th, all 3 batters reached and scored
Managers with 14-man pitching staffs try to anticipate when a starter's stuff will decline rather than waiting to see it. However, the COVID outbreak with the Sox makes that a more uncertain proposition given that Sox are further down their reliever depth chart w/pitching changes @alexspeier Of course, if players are never given a chance to try to go through the order a 3rd time, they'll never learn how to do so, contributing to the vicious cycle that keeps putting less of the game in the hands of starters and more in an endless line of relievers.

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 1m Liner up the middle by Harold Ramirez deflects off the foot of Hansel Robles to Bobby Dalbec at first for the final out of the inning. A two-run-saving kick save, though Robles appeared to hop straight down the clubhouse tunnel with an injured foot.
