Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 55m Started 10-19 (.36), 20% playoffs Got hot 32-12 (.73), 80% playoffs Breakdown 6-13 (.32), 49% playoffs
Should be mostly healthy after the break, with a long home stand. That probably determines the trade deadline direction. It's on the players.
3 v TOR 4 v CLE 3 v MIL 1 @ HOU

3 v TOR 4 v CLE 3 v MIL 1 @ HOU I can't believe the Sox have currently fallen out of the WC. Not that I don't think they'll be in the playoffs at the end of all of this, but I am extremely annoyed right now. The Mariners are really starting to tick me off.
Friday's game about did me in. Last night's game was terrible. A team has never needed the ASB as much as this team needs it. Regroup. I fully expect us to be buyers (not that I ever expected a huge move.)

It would be nice to win today and take us into the break on a good note. I can't say I have a lot of confidence in today's game, but I'm hopeful.

Game 93: Red Sox need a bounce back against the Yankees, plus lineups and notes for the first-half finaleBy Amin Touri Globe Staff,Updated July 17, 2022, 7 minutes ago If Friday’s win was memorable, Saturday’s loss couldn’t have been more forgettable. But despite a disastrous defeat in the Bronx in the second game of the series, the Red Sox can still take the set with a win over the Yankees on Sunday. Chris Sale has been thrown straight into the fire — he returned from a lengthy injury layoff against the Rays, and will make his second appearance of the season against a high-powered New York offense riding a wave of confidence. The big lefty has solid career numbers against the Yankees, with a 2.98 ERA in 21 outings, but his last trip to Yankee stadium was nightmarish; eight earned runs in just 3 ⅔ innings of work in a 9-2 loss. It’s an afternoon of redemption for everyone. New York will counter with its own big-money ace, with Gerrit Cole set to go on Sunday. The Red Sox have had the star righthander’s number in recent times, hanging eight earned runs on him in 10 innings this season and having famously knocked him around in last year’s Wild Card Game. Sunday also marks the first-half finale, as the Red Sox look to take a little momentum into the All-Star break. Lineups RED SOX (48-44): 1. Jarren Duran (L) RF 2. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 3. Xander Bogaerts (R) SS 4. J.D. Martinez (R) DH 5. Alex Verdugo (L) LF 6. Christian Vazquez (R) C 7. Franchy Cordero (L) 1B 8. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF 9. Jeter Downs (R) 2B Pitching: LHP Chris Sale (0-0, 0.00 ERA) YANKEES (63-28): 1. DJ LeMahieu (R) 3B 2. Aaron Judge (R) CF 3. Anthony Rizzo (L) 1B 4. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B 5. Matt Carpenter (L) DH 6. Aaron Hicks (S) LF 7. Isiah Kiner-Falefa (R) SS 8. Tim Locastro (R) RF 9. Kyle Higashioka (R) C Pitching: RHP Gerrit Cole (8-2, 3.05 ERA) Time: 1:35 p.m. TV, radio: NESN, WEEI-FM 93.7 Red Sox vs. Cole: Bogaerts 6-29, Bradley Jr. 3-15, Cordero 1-3, Dalbec 0-6, Devers 7-23, Duran 2-7, Martinez 7-29, Plawecki 2-4, Refsnyder 0-3, Verdugo 5-19, Vázquez 5-17 Yankees vs. Sale: Donaldson 10-35, Gallo 1-12, Gonzalez 1-9, Hicks 9-30, Higashioka 1-2, Judge 5-25, Kiner-Falefa 1-5, LeMahieu 6-9, Rizzo 3-8, Stanton 2-6, Torres 0-14 Stat of the day: Rafael Devers has six homers in 23 career at-bats against Gerrit Cole — no player in baseball has hit more against the Yankees ace. Notes: Aaron Judge homered twice on Saturday to reach 33 before the All-Star break, as many as Roger Maris had before the break when he surpassed Babe Ruth’s single-season home run record in 1961 ... The Sox still seek their first series win against an AL East opponent, against whom they are 12-25 ... Rafael Devers has homered in three straight games and hit two off Gerrit Cole July 7 in Boston when the Red Sox dropped a close one, 6-5 ... Cole is coming off one of his best outings of the season when he struck out 11 in seven scoreless innings Tuesday before Clay Holmes allowed four runs in the ninth of a 4-3 loss to Cincinnati ... Cole is 6-3 with a 4.30 ERA in 12 career starts against Boston ... The Red Sox gave up 14 runs to the Yankees Saturday, the second most they’ve surrendered to their rivals in the last decade, only behind the 17-13 slugfest in London in 2019. Pete Abraham @peteabe · 54m #RedSox will start Eovaldi on Friday against Toronto. Sounds like Sale is possibility for Saturday.
Hill and Wacha won't be ready out of the break, but both are progressing well. Don't seem too far off.

Chris Cotillo @chriscotillo · 31m Cora said Eovaldi likely starts Friday to start the second half. Likely Sale and Pivetta in some order over the weekend. After that, some question marks. Hill and Wacha are getting close but won't be ready for early next week. Winckowski (COVID list) and Crawford are options.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 6m Asked Alex Cora if the Sox need help via trades:
“We need help from the people here. It really doesn’t matter. We can talk about [trades] or whatever. The guys that are here are capable and they have to be better.”

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 7m Line drive hit Sale in the left hand and he walked right off the field.
It looked like from the way he held his hand up he broke his little finger.
Sawamura comes in. A disastrous turn of events for the Red Sox.
Sale had missed all season and returned Tuesday. Now this.
Ball was 106.7 mph off Hicks bat and deflected into right field.
Sale walked directly into the clubhouse.

Chris Cotillo @chriscotillo · 8m Chris Sale was just smoked with a line drive. His hand might be broken. Not what the Red Sox needed.
Chris Sale gave the throat slash sign to the Red Sox dugout as his mangled pinky dangled from his hand. He ran into the tunnel and is done for the day... and maybe much longer.
This is really awful. Chris Sale gets a lot of shit for his injury history but he worked unbelievably hard to come back, only for this to happen in the first inning of his second start back. Wishing him the best.

Red Sox Stats Retweeted Christopher Geary @chrisgearyortho · 7m Sale just dislocated the PIP joint on his small finger - rehab timeline will be contingent on if it’s just a soft tissue injury or a fracture. Soft tissue, he might be back before long. Operative fracture would end his season #RedSox

3-0 Yankees and really could care less the need for the All Star Break was at Defcon 3 just went up cuz of Sale that was just sickening. IMO, it looked broken. If that is the case, then he will be out for the season.
