Julian McWilliams @byjulianmack · 4h Christian Vázquez, who left the game with stomach illness feels "a lot lighter," according to his manager.
"He's going to kill me for that," Cora added with a smile/laugh
"We're gonna follow the rules but this is what you're going to get," Richards said in terms of his outing and MLB's ruling on pitchers not being able to utilize stuff to help their grip.
"Be prepared for four-hour games," he added.
Richards added that he's happy that he's at this point in his career before MLB came up with this rule.
"I don't hit people," said Richards, noting that he didn't have a grip on the ball.
Heading into tonight, he had four hit batsmen since 2018. Richards hit two batters tonight.

Alex Speier @alexspeier · 8h In his prior two starts, Richards had spin rates on his four-seamer, slider, and curve that were above his season averages. Tonight, he’s down hundreds of RPMs on his four-seamer and slider (he hasn’t thrown the curve). Not a single pitch has achieved a season-avg spin rate.
The Red Sox win a second straight 10-8 game. They're the only team in baseball this year to win back-to-back games in which they allowed 8+ runs. The last Red Sox team to pull the feat was the 2013 Red Sox, who did it 3 straight times vs the Yankees (9/5-9/7/2013).
The Red Sox went 10-7 through their stretch of 17 consecutive days with a game -- despite getting 7 starts of < 5 innings (one more than they had in their first 50 9-inning games) and a lot of games against elite offenses. They managed to avoid a slump in a challenging run.

Boston Red Sox’s Alex Cora goes ‘all-in’ pinch-hitting Christian Arroyo, who hit grand slam to end tough stretch with 10-7 record against 2020 playoff teams Updated 3:51 AM; Today 3:51 AM
By Chris Cotillo | ccotillo@MassLive.com
ATLANTA -- In the seventh inning of the Red Sox’ second straight back-and-forth slugfest against the Braves, manager Alex Cora had a decision to make. With the pitcher’s spot due up and the Sox rallying after surrendering the lead an inning earlier, Cora had to choose his pinch-hitter of choice.
Righty Shane Greene was pitching for Atlanta, so Cora had Danny Santana -- a switch-hitter -- go out on deck because he liked the matchup of Santana’s swing against Greene, a sinker-ball pitcher. Once Greene struck out Bobby Dalbec for the second out with the bases loaded, the Braves called for lefty A.J. Minter out of the bullpen. At that point, Cora didn’t hesitate, calling back Santana and sending Christian Arroyo to the plate.
The move was an aggressive one considering pulling back Santana meant he was no longer eligible to play and that the Sox would have just two position players -- Kevin Plawecki and Kiké Hernández -- available for the rest of the game in a National League park. But with the club’s bullpen running on fumes after a tough stretch, Cora decided the gamble was worth it.
“I thought about it before,” Cora said. “Where we were pitching-wise and position-player wise, like I said in ‘18, it was all-in. Let’s go. We either win it here or we lose it here.
“The guys deserve a chance to win it there. We really liked the matchup with Greene and Danny, a sinker-baller and Danny can stay on that plane and hit the ball. At the same time, we liked the other one, too. If they bring the lefty, it was a no-brainer. Let’s go to Arroyo and see what happens.
Arroyo drove a 1-2 Minter sinker into the left-field seats and give the Red Sox a 10-7 lead in a game they would eventually win, 10-8. The club’s first pinch-hit grand slam since Sept. 2013 turned out to be a big one.
“It paid off,” Cora said.
Arroyo, who has now hit four clutch homers for Boston this month, had just 17 pinch-hit plate appearances entering Wednesday and was 4-for-14 with a homer and a double. Out of the lineup for the second straight day, the 26-year-old knew he had a chance to get in the game if there was a matchup with a lefty late in a close game.
“For me, I had been preparing all game,” Arroyo said. “I knew the potential of who I was going to face, which was going to be a lefty. Tried to look at as many lefties as I could just to see pitch shapes again.”
Cora was impressed with how Arroyo swung at Minter’s first offering, even though he missed. The infielder’s aggressive approach ended up paying dividends against Minter.
“When he’s good, when he’s on his game, he’s short to the ball and direct to the ball,” Cora said. “On that pitch, that’s what he did.”
With the win, the Red Sox completed a short two-game sweep of the Braves and secured their third straight victory. In the bigger picture, the club completed one of the toughest stretches of its season -- a 17-day, 17-game stretch against teams that reached the postseason last year -- with a 10-7 record.
Heading into Thursday’s off day -- Boston’s first in 2 ½ weeks -- Cora knew he could chase a win for a change.
“We ended a tough stretch. We grinded through it,” Cora said. “I think we had a positive record, I think it was 10-7. For how ugly it looked, I know a lot of teams would take 10-7 in a 17-game stretch against teams that made it the playoffs last year.”

Chris Hatfield @spchrishatfield 8m With Arroyo's seeming breakout, it'll be interesting to see how the Red Sox manage his workload going forward. 2017-2020, his single-season high in PA is 248. Already at 142 incl. his rehab assignment, he'd only need to average 1.3 PA per game rest of the way to top that.

Lou Merloni @loumerloni · 9m All week long I’ve defended this staff when it comes to spin rate and how their rates haven’t changed much in the last 2 weeks. Until last night. Richards FB -233, his Slider -250. IMO, that ain’t Bullfrog and Rosen. He didn’t even attempt to throw a CB. Now we’ll see who he is.
