Yankees @ Red Sox Friday, 25th June 2021 7pm @ Fenway
German 4-4/4.17
Germán surrendered four runs over four innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Athletics. He generated seven strikeouts and only issued two walks. He continues to have issues with home runs, but it was a decent bounce-back effort after he was lit up for seven runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Phillies in his previous outing. The 28-year-old righty owns a solid 3.40 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 63/15 K/BB ratio across 69 innings (13 starts) this season.
Perez 5-4/4.32
Perez picked up the win on Saturday after allowing one run on three hits and two walks over five innings as the Red Sox defeated the Royals 7-1. The strong performance was definitely needed after Perez allowed a combined 11 runs over 3 1/3 innings during his last two outings. The southpaw generated a 38 percent whiff rate on his changeup and 42 percent CSW during the contest and now carries a 5-4 record with a 4.32 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 66 2/3 frames.

The Red Sox went into Thursday holding a half-game edge over the Rays in the AL East picture. Boston finished with six hits Wednesday with no player recording more than one. Christian Vazquez and Xander Bogaerts each drove in a run for the Red Sox but it wasn’t enough in the game. Garrett Richards (4-5) took the loss on the mound as he was roughed up in his outing. He allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits with four walks and no strikeouts over 1.2 innings of work.

Pedroia excited for Fenway return, ceremony June 24th, 2021 Ian Browne
Ian Browne @ianmbrowne
During his impressive career with the Red Sox, Dustin Pedroia had a front-row seat when players like Jason Varitek, Mike Lowell, Tim Wakefield and David Ortiz had their retirement ceremonies.
This time, it will be Pedroia who is the center of attention in a ceremony that will take place prior to Friday night’s game at Fenway Park against the Yankees.
After four years of chronic pain in his left knee, Pedroia retired on Feb. 1.
Pedroia can only wonder what it will be like to get his official send-off from the only team and fanbase he ever played for in his 14-year career.
“I don’t know. I tried to ask them questions about what they’re doing, but they haven’t really given me any answers. I don’t really know what to expect,” said Pedroia. “Obviously I haven’t played in about a year and a half with my injuries and stuff. It should be fun. I’m excited just to see Fenway and get back out there and see the fans and everything. It should be a good time.”
For manager Alex Cora, it will be a thrill for him to see his former teammate and close friend get the applause he deserves from what is expected to be the biggest crowd of the season so far at Fenway.
“It will be fun just to have Pedey there, and obviously it should be a packed house finally at Fenway,” said Cora. “That’s what he deserves. I’m actually looking forward for him to be around. Just the fact that he’s going to be in Fenway and people are going to be able to recognize a great career is going to be amazing.”
Though many of Pedroia’s former teammates are now elsewhere, those who remain (Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Matt Barnes, Christian Vázquez, Brandon Workman) feel like they are in for a treat.
“He means a lot for us, for the guys that played with him,” said Vázquez. “He taught us to play the game the right way every day, every day to play the game hard. It means a lot for us [to see the ceremony].”
Though Pedroia isn’t working in any kind of official capacity for the Red Sox yet, it is all but certain he will once his kids get older.
He is keeping tabs on the team on television from Arizona and is enthused by its strong start to the season.
“They’re one of the best teams in baseball,” Pedroia said. “Obviously a long way to go, but keep it going and we’ll see where it is at the end. They’re just showing up every day to win a baseball game. That’s what you do, and they’re fun to watch. It looks like the team has come together, and they play the game the right way and it’s exciting.”

RED SOX NOTEBOOK Red Sox place Christian Arroyo on injured list with knee contusion By Julian McWilliams Globe Staff,Updated June 24, 2021, 3:33 p.m.
The Red Sox placed infielder Christian Arroyo on the injured list, retroactive to Monday, with a right knee contusion. Arroyo hurt his knee in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game in Kansas City, colliding with Kiké Hernández.
Michael Chavis was recalled from Triple A Worcester and went hitless from the leadoff spot in Thursday’s 1-0 loss to the Rays.
This marks the second time Arroyo has been placed on the IL this season. He missed 17 games in May due to a left hand contusion. Related: Tampa musters two hits, and it’s enough to beat Red Sox
Manager Alex Cora’s initial hope was to have Arroyo return for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. When the infielder wasn’t able to put weight on the knee while playing catch Tuesday, however, Cora and the Sox had to make the tough decision.
“We talked to him last night, and he was very honest about it,” Cora said before Thursday’s game in St. Petersburg, Fla.“Obviously, he doesn’t like the fact that he has to go to the IL again. But you know, it’s something that we have to do for the roster. And, obviously for him. Get treatment, the sooner he comes back, the better.”
Arroyo is hitting .264, with four homers to go along with a .756 OPS in 41 games.
Chavis, meanwhile, was recalled for the fourth time this season. The Sox have noted Chavis needs to be better at controlling the strike zone. In his first 11 games, Chavis had a whopping 57.1 percent chase rate.
“I think it’s more about swing decisions,” Cora said. “His swing is a good one when he makes contact. But as far as swing decisions, he’s been inconsistent. The last week has been good for everything we hear. And now it’s time for him to come here and contribute.”
In his previous 10 games with the WooSox, Chavis belted six homers.
Seeking answers to sticky questions
Baseball is still trying to figure out the sticky stuff situation. When Rays pitcher Diego Castillo was forced to switch hats during the ninth inning Wednesday due to its discoloration, it highlighted some of the confusion surrounding Major League Baseball’s new ruling.
Cora spoke to the umpires after the game, but is still searching for more clarity. He said he was told Castillo’s hat wasn’t sticky, which is why he was able to stay in the game. Related: ‘Everybody has their Pedroia stories.’ Here are some of the best tales from the Red Sox star’s rise to the majors
“I got to be honest, today, we’re asking a lot of questions about the situation that happened yesterday,” Cora said. “We didn’t know that you could throw something out and keep the player.
“We’re trying to figure this out. And not to make a scene [after the game Wednesday]. But we want to do it right.” Danny Santana struggling
The Danny Santana experiment hasn’t worked out so far. The switch-hitting utility player is hitting just .123 in 72 plate appearances. Santana has not homered since belting one in each of his first two contests. “Early on, he hasn’t been able to catch up with the fastball,” Cora said. “And at this level, regardless of usage, we live in an era that pitchers don’t throw 75 percent fastball, they go 50-50. It seems mechanically now, he’s trying to get out there and get it. And it makes you vulnerable to offspeed pitches” . . . The Red Sox are gearing up for a three-game set against the Yankees, who are 7-3 in their last 10 games, including a sweep of the Blue Jays and back-to-back wins against the Royals. Probable starters for the three games: Martín Pérez vs. Domingo German, Nate Eovaldi vs. Jordan Montgomery, and Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Gerrit Cole.

Red Sox Notebook: Alex Cora asks front office for answers about MLB’s new rules
By Jason Mastrodonato | jason.mastrodonato@bostonherald.com | Boston Herald PUBLISHED: June 24, 2021 at 8:14 p.m. | UPDATED: June 24, 2021 at 8:28 p.m.
When Alex Cora reached out to a bunch of his fellow managers to see what they thought of MLB’s new rules, there was a common theme.
“Everybody is in the same boat; we’re trying to figure this out and not to make a scene out there, obviously,” Cora said.
Cora said he almost made a scene Wednesday night, when Rays pitcher Diego Castillo entered in the ninth inning and there was a visible dark spot on his cap.
The umpires checked it out, made him replace his cap and let him finish the game, an 8-2 loss for the Red Sox.
Rather than complain to the umpires in real time, Cora said he asked Sox general manager Brian O’Halloran to look into it with MLB. There seems to be some confusion about why a player’s cap can be banned from the game, but the player remains.
“The way they presented it to me, it wasn’t sticky,” Cora said. “Well, that’s why he stayed in the game. But, what happens with the hat? Where does it go? We didn’t know you could throw something out but keep the player … We thought that if the equipment is not legal, quote-unquote, then the player gets thrown out. So, (Wednesday), they explained to me that one. Now, we’re just like, ‘OK, so how does this work?’ ”
Asked if he thought the new rules were working, Cora said, “I mean, nobody has been caught, right? So it seems like it’s working.” Chavis returns, Duran stays down
Christian Arroyo will be out at least 10 days with a bruised knee he suffered from a center-field collision with Kiké Hernandez on Sunday.
“He wasn’t progressing,” Cora said. “We need bodies. We talked to him (Wednesday). He felt that at one point when it happened he was probably going to be ready for (Thursday) … But he wasn’t able to put too much weight on it playing catch.”
It sounds like Arroyo will only miss the minimum 10 days.
Michael Chavis was called up from Triple-A Worcester to replace him on the roster. Chavis (.263 average, .801 OPS with the Woo Sox) has been out-performed by both Jarren Duran (.291 AVG, 1.015 OPS) and Franchy Cordero (.356 AVG, 1.111 OPS), but the Sox continue to choose Chavis.
“He’s swinging the bat well,” Cora said. “He’s made a few adjustments and hopefully he can continue to do what he was doing down there. Obviously, he still has to get better. The most important is plate discipline. He doesn’t walk too much. …
“When he stays within himself and down, his swing decisions are down in the zone, he hits the ball hard.”
Chavis was in the lineup batting leadoff and playing second base on Thursday. Belief in Santana
Danny Santana continues to struggle (.123 average, .454 OPS) but the Red Sox continue to have faith in him.
The 30-year-old switch-hitter had a great season two years ago with the Rangers (.283 AVG, .857 OPS) and the Sox still think they can unlock his potential.
“I trust the roster,” Cora said. “And we’re gonna keep working with him. Obviously we have to make adjustments we get to keep, you know, grinding with him. Hopefully he doesn’t get too down on himself and whenever he gets a chance again to play, just go out there and perform.
“I’m a more patient person than a few years ago. I trust the roster. For how bad it looks, the other day he walked, he put the ball in play. So, you know, I don’t get caught up on the whole like, do big things. We see the effort he’s putting, obviously, we want all of them to perform at the highest level. But understanding that there’s up and downs, you know, a month ago, it was Bobby (Dalbec). Now, it’s, you know, Danny, and hopefully he can get in a groove and help us out.” Split opinions
Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez doesn’t see much of a problem with MLB’s new rules, despite one of his pitchers, Garrett Richards, being quite vocal about how much he dislikes it.
“Everybody needs to get used to this,” Vazquez said. “It’s a new rule. Nothing we can do. We can’t control that. We have to find a way. We have a job to do, to win games, and no matter what, we need to find a way like everybody. We have adjustments to do. We’re working on it. It’s baseball now.
“I think my calling games is not changing because there are new rules. I trust my guys. I trust my pitchers.”

Well this should be a long and hopefully fun series thanking the baseball gods that shifted the Sunday game to an early game so we miss A rod this weekend
I am going to be happy for Dustin Pedoria tonight. He is one of my all time favs and I wish others played the game like he did. I know he had his HOF chances cut short but he is an All Time Red Sox player. And glad he is getting his dues tonight.

Surging Yankees eager to issue payback to Red Sox | ‘We’re ready to go’ Today 8:00 AM
By Randy Miller | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge has an interesting take on the Boston Red Sox sweeping a series at Yankee Stadium on the first weekend of June
That’s when Judge feels his ballclub began showing more in-game fight that eventually started paying off with a bunch of comeback victories.
Introducing Yankees Insider: Get exclusive news, behind-the-scenes observations and the ability to text message directly with beat writers
“I think it was kind of playing the Red Sox where we really picked it up,” Judge said Thursday after the Yankees added momentum for this weekend’s visit to Boston with an 8-1 thumping of the Kansas City Royals. “We played a great series even though we got swept at home. It was some good baseball, back and forth with a team that’s in the top of the division, a lot of close games we could have pulled out. They were just a better team on that day.
Those three days, Judge meant.
Regardless, the tide sure has turned since. The Yankees’ skid lasted another week before they visited Buffalo and began a 7-2 surge by rallying for three wins in three nights against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yanks added two more comeback victories last weekend facing the Oakland Athletics, then stole one Wednesday night from the Royals.
Next up is three against the Red Sox in Fenway, and the Yanks are feeling great about themselves again.
“It’s gonna be fun,” Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton said. “We’re ready to go. It’s always high tension playing them.”
Always, and this year’s games are back to being crucial for both clubs with the Red Sox contending again after two down seasons.
The Red Sox passed the Rays last weekend for first place in the AL East, but fell back to second on Thursday when Tampa Bay beat them for the second day in a row to win a home series. This was a continuation of recent mediocre play by the Red Sox, who are just 8-8 since sweeping the Yankees.
Meanwhile, the Yankees feel like they’re about to peak after dealing with a lot of adversity in a first half that is about over, especially their 5-10 start to the season and their recent 5-13 skid.
“We’re getting closer,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “We expect to be a great team and we’re not there yet, but there’s no doubt that they’re getting closer and closer to that and working really hard behind the scenes to get to that point.
“We’re obviously starting to see more results after going through a difficult stretch, but it’s a confident group that expects a lot. We’ll keep fighting to try and get to that point where we’re the team we want to be, and hopefully that’s not until the very end.”
The goal this weekend is to issue the Red Sox at least a couple paybacks from early June.
“Like I always say, winning series is important,” Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez said. “Now we’ve got to focus on the upcoming series in Boston, and definitely what we want to do is go there and win the series.”

Happy for Pedroia's celebration tonight. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see it since my Extra Innings package never shows any pre or post game stuff. I am glad that I won't have to listen to the YES crew or the ESPN crew.

I hope I'm wrong, but I do not feel good about this series at all. For some reason, I usually don't feel good about series against the Yankees.
I am hoping to avoid getting swept.
It would be really nice to win tonight's game to 1) erase the sour taste from last night's loss and 2) ease some of the pressure.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Series Preview
The rivalry is renewed. By Matt_Collins@MattRyCollins Jun 25, 2021, 1:30pm EDT
The opponent in one sentence
The Yankees still are not where most expected them to be around the halfway point of the season, but they are getting closer and very much hanging around the race. Record
40-34 Head-to-head record
Red Sox 3, Yankees 0 Trend
Up. Things are still not perfect in Yankee land, but they are making their way back up the standing with wins in their last three series, including one against the Athletics and a sweep of the Blue Jays. Overall, New York has won seven of their last nine games. Pitching Matchups
6/25: Martín Pérez vs. Domingo Germán, 7:10 PM ET
After being such a huge piece of this Red Sox rotation for the first couple of months this season and arguably being the biggest surprise, Pérez seemed to come back in a hurry in June with two straight outings in which he failed to make it more than two innings while allowing at least five runs. The last time out, however, he was able to bounce back in a big way. The lefty allowed just one run his last time out against the Royals while making it through five innings. Now he’ll have a real test to see whether he’s passed those struggles, as he’s facing a lineup with a whole lot of right-handed power. On paper this is a nightmare matchup, but Pérez has been surprising all season. This is the perfect time to do it yet again.
Germán missed a whole lot of time over the last two years after being accused of domestic abuse against his girlfriend, and suspended after an MLB investigation, in 2019. He’s back now, to the chagrin of a whole lot of Yankee fans, and he’s putting together a solid season. The righty will throw a lot of strikes so the Red Sox should be ready to swing for this game, but he can leave some mistakes over the heart of the plate. This feels like a game where the Red Sox are going to need a lot from their core, and they should get at least a few pitches to really do damage. They struggled a bit in their first matchup against him this year, scoring just one run over 5 2⁄3 innings. Germán will lean heavily on his curveball while also featuring a pair of fastballs that sit around 93 mph and a changeup.
6/26: Nathan Eovaldi vs. Jordan Montgomery, 7:15 PM ET
Eovaldi has emerged as the de facto ace of this rotation, and given the way many of these starters are looking it’s not a very high bar to clear. And for Eovaldi specifically, while he’s been very good fairly often, the consistency isn’t at the level the Red Sox would prefer, with a few mediocre starts sprinkled in every few turns through the rotation. That includes his last time out when he allowed four runs (three earned) over the course of four innings. The good news is he should have a little bit of confidence heading into this one as he already pitched well against New York this year, allowing two runs (one earned) over six innings in the Bronx.
Montgomery doesn’t have the most impressive stuff in this Yankees rotation, and he entered 2021 coming off two poor seasons, albeit with limited innings due to injuries and last year’s schedule. But this season he has been solid with roughly league-average results and even better peripherals. There’s not one thing about his game that stands out, but instead he is solid across the board. This will be the first time the Red Sox see him this season, and as a lefty who leans on secondaries he is the kind of pitcher against whom they typically struggle. Montgomery will most often throw his curveball and changeup, while also mixing in a pair of fastballs and a cutter.
6/27: Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Gerrit Cole, 1:10 PM ET
What else is there to say about the kind of season Rodriguez is having that we haven’t already said? It’s one of those things that is so frustrating to try and break down because it still seems like it shouldn’t be happening even though it’s been long enough that it’s hard to attribute to just bad luck or anything like that. He’s still missing bats and limiting free passes at a solid rate, but opponents just keep getting hits. The lefty is coming off a quality start his last time out, and he allowed just three runs over 5 1⁄3 against the Yankees earlier this month, so maybe this is the situation he needs to really turn things around for a big second half.
When the Red Sox swept the Yankees earlier in June, they were fortunate enough to miss Cole for those three games. They won’t be as lucky this time around. The Yankees ace is probably the best non-Jacob deGrom pitcher in the world, and he’s rolling right now. On the season, he has a 2.33 ERA with elite stuff and control. He’s also remarkably consistent, having allowed two or fewer earned runs in all but two of his 15 starts this season. The Red Sox will have their hands full, is what I’m saying. Cole will feature a high-90s fastball with a changeup, a curveball and a slider. Old Friends
None. Notable Position Players
Aaron Judge remains the best player on this Yankees team, and he is once again leading this lineup with a strong season. Everyone knows he will strikeout a bit more than you’d like, but he more than makes up for it with everything else, including elite patience to go with the mammoth power.
DJ LeMahieu hasn’t really been the same guy this season for the Yankees after re-signing this past winter. He’s still controlling the strike zone very well, but the power just hasn’t been there to the extent the Yankees would like.
Gary Sánchez got off to a horrible start, leading to some questions about whether or not he’d be the long-term answer for New York behind the plate. More recently, he’s been hitting the cover off the ball to the tune of a 191 wRC+ in June.
Giancarlo Stanton is another one of these big right-handed power bats, who is basically the same hitter as Judge (though I’d rather have the latter), albeit without the defense.
Luke Voit has missed almost this entire season with a couple different injuries, but he’s back now to provide yet another right-handed power bat.
Gleyber Torres has been a massive disappointment for New York this year, totally lacking the quality of contact they’ve come to expect from the young infielder.
Gio Urshela isn’t quite playing up to the high standards he’s set for himself at times the last few years, but he’s still been solidly above average in the bottom half of this lineup.
Clint Frazier is supposed to be a big power bat to make up for his swing-and-miss, but the strikeouts are overpowering everything else so far this year.
Brett Gardner isn’t playing quite as much these days, and his 75 wRC+ tells us why. That said, he does still play in center field at least half the time.
Bullpen Snapshot
Aroldis Chapman is having another very good season in the ninth inning for the Yankees, though he’s been going through a rough stretch of late. His command has taken a hit in the month of June, and it’s come in the form of both homers and walks.
Zack Britton has just recently rejoined the Yankees bullpen, and while his stuff isn’t what it used to be he can still get a ton of ground balls.
Chad Green will miss a decent number of bats and throw strikes, but hitters need to be ready for mistakes because he’ll make a few here and there. Injuries
Luis Severino underwent Tommy John surgery around the time Chris Sale did, and he started a rehab assignment before being shut down again with a groin injury. The Yankees are expecting him back in the second half.
Corey Kluber went down at the end of May with a shoulder issue, and it’s still not really clear when, or if, the Yankees expect him back this year.
Aaron Hicks had to undergo wrist surgery this year and will likely miss the entire season.
Darren O’Day has been out of the Yankees bullpen since late April with a shoulder injury, but he shouldn’t be too far off from a return.
Justin Wilson hurt his hamstring in May, but like O’Day he’s working his way back relatively soon to the Yankees pen.
Clarke Schmidt is working his way back from an elbow injury, and while he’s ramping back up he’s still a little ways away. Weather Forecast
There’s a little rain in Boston here on Friday, but that should clear before the game and the rest of the series should be dry as well.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees preview: TV schedule, pitching probables, key stories, how to watch (June 25-27) Updated 2:39 PM; Today 2:39 PM
By Chris Cotillo | ccotillo@MassLive.com
For the first time since Sept. 9, 2019 -- the day Dave Dombrowski was fired -- the Red Sox will host the Yankees in front of fans at Fenway Park this weekend. Dustin Pedroia will be honored with a pregame ceremony Friday night, Chris Sale will face hitters before Saturday’s game, and -- most importantly -- two rivals will face off in a crucial division series in front of what should be a packed house.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT:
The Yankees enter the series four games back of the Rays (and 3 ½ games back of the Red Sox) in the AL East after taking two of three from the Royals to end a six-game homestand. New York is 11-9 in June and 7-3 in their last 10 games.
The Yanks have dealt with their share of health issues this season, as outfielder Aaron Hicks (wrist surgery) is out for rest of the year, starter Corey Kluber (rotator cuff) is expected to be out through July and two relievers (Justin Wilson and Darren O’Day) are also on the injured list. Aaron Judge (.898 OPS), Gary Sanchez (.847), Giancarlo Stanton (.862) have led the Yankees offensively while Gerrit Cole (2.33 ERA) has anchored the rotation and the bullpen has largely pitched well.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Yankees rank 12th in the majors in OPS (.717), 17th in average (.235) and tied for seventh in homers (98). Pitching-wise, they are ninth in ERA (3.57), eighth in opponent average (.224) and 10th in strikeouts (697).
PITCHING PROBABLES:
Friday, 7:10 p.m. ET -- RHP Domingo Germán (4-4, 4.17 ERA) vs. LHP Martín Pérez (5-4, 4.32 ERA)
Saturday, 7:10 p.m. ET -- LHP Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 4.03 ERA) vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi (7-4, 3.90 ERA)
Sunday, 7:10 p.m. ET -- RHP Gerrit Cole (8-3, 2.33 ERA) vs. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (5-4, 6.07 ERA)
THREE SOX TO WATCH:
Danny Santana
Santana has been brutal offensively since joining the Red Sox in mid-May, hitting .123 (8-for-65) with a .454 OPS. In June, he has hit .111 (5-for-45) with zero extra-base hits and four walks. His roster spot could be in jeopardy soon.
Eduardo Rodriguez
Rodriguez delivered his first quality start since April 25 on Tuesday against the Rays, allowing five runs (three earned) in six innings. He will duel with Yankees ace Gerrit Cole on Sunday afternoon in a rare non-primetime series finale between the clubs.
Connor Wong
Wong scored the game-winning run Tuesday in extra innings but has not yet recorded a plate appearance in the majors. A temporary backup to Christian Vázquez with Kevin Plawecki on the injured list, Wong is in line to make his first big-league start Sunday afternoon. He’ll face a tall task in Cole.
SERIES NOTES:
The Red Sox arrived at Fenway Park this morning at 3:30 a.m., following a 4-4 road trip against Atlanta (2-0), Kansas City (1-2), and Tampa Bay (1-2). This is the first time in 2021 the Sox have lost consecutive series. The Red Sox are closing out the season’s first half by playing 19 games in 20 days. They are in a stretch of 16 consecutive days with a game (1-2 so far), including a West Coast trip to play the A’s and Angels. The Sox are 20-17 (.541) at home, including 20-14 since getting swept by the Orioles to begin the season. Their .541 home win percentage ranks second in the AL East. Boston swept the Yankees in the first series between the clubs from June 4-6 at Yankee Stadium. The Sox will visit New York twice more (from July 15-18 and Aug. 17-18) and the Yankees will come to Fenway for two more series (July 22-25 and Sept. 24-26). Red Sox relievers rank fourth in the AL in ERA (3.68). They have an MLB-high six pitchers with 20+ relief appearances and a sub-3.50 ERA. The Sox lead the majors with 25 come-from-behind wins this season and lead the American League in runs scored with two outs (159). Beginning April 9, the Red Sox have begun 51 days with at least a share of first place in the AL East and 27 days in second place. They enter this weekend a half-game behind the Rays after dropping two of three at Tropicana Field.
UP NEXT:
After facing the Yankees, the Sox will conclude their homestand by hosting the Royals for four games. The club will then go on its last road trip before the All-Star break -- a six-game west coast swing to Oakland and Anaheim. Here’s what’s next:
