Ref deserved to be called out for falling asleep. Same with the 1B coach. What does the coach think he is there for, except to see the field when the runner can't.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 17m Strong work for Kutter Crawford, who has allowed one run on five hits over five innings on 65 pitches (44 strikes). Very efficient.
The only run wasn't really his fault, either.
Crawford done after 5 IP. Understandable with a one-run lead and the 3-4-5 hitters coming up. But he earned another inning maybe?

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 7m Duvall waggled his left hand back and forth as he reached the dugout, which would seem like a good thing.
Worth noting he had season-ending surgery on that wrist last year.
Off to a .455/.514/1.030 start at the plate.

Triston Casas homers, Red Sox pitching dominates as Boston sweeps Tigers

DETROIT — Triston Casas went 2-for-4 with a 401-foot homer and RBI double.
The Red Sox won 4-1 over the Tigers on Sunday at Comerica Park to sweep the three-game series.
Boston received excellent pitching from starter Kutter Crawford (5 innings, one run) and four relievers who combined for 4 scoreless innings.
Crawford allowed five hits and no walks while striking out six. He recorded nine swings-and-misses.
The righty threw 20 cutters and 20 four-seam fastballs. His four-seamer averaged 93.7 mph and topped out at 95.2 mph, per Baseball Savant. He also mixed in 12 curveballs, 11 changeups and two sliders.
John Schreiber pitched a perfect sixth. Josh Winckowski pitched a perfect seventh.
Chris Martin allowed two hits in the eighth but escaped without allowing a run.
Kenley Jansen made it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases with one out. But he he pitched his way out of the jam and recorded his second save.
Casas delivers vs. lefty
Sunday marked Triston Casas’ first time in the lineup against a left-handed starting pitcher this year. He doubled to right field against lefty Matthew Boyd to drive in Kiké Hernández and tie the game 1-1 in the second inning.
His homer, which had a 107.4 mph exit velocity, was against lefty reliever Chasen Shreve.
Casas has struggled to start the season. Manager Alex Cora said he thinks the left-handed hitter can actually benefit from facing multiple lefties this week.
“I honestly believe that he’s going to benefit from it because as a left-handed hitter against a lefty, you’ve gotta make sure you see the baseball,” Cora said before Sunday’s game. “Put him out there today and hopefully, he can stay back and get back to that left-center gap and get in line to what he usually does (which) is track pitches and drive them to left-center.”
Duvall leaves game
Adam Duvall appeared to injury his wrist on a sliding catch attempt in the bottom of the ninth. He left the game.
Refsnyder makes 2-1
Leadoff hitter Rob Refsnyder put the Red Sox ahead 2-1 with an RBI single in the fifth against Boyd. He drove in Connor Wong who led off the frame with a double (106.9 mph exit velocity) to left field.
The Red Sox possibly will face seven left-handed starters over the next eight games. Cora plans to continue to use Refsnyder as his leadoff hitter during the stretch.
“At least it’s two at-bats against the lefty,” Cora said. “We’re trying to maximize that. After that, we’ll see where we’re at.”
Refsnyder went 23-for-64 (.359) with a .411 on-base percentage and .594 slugging percentage against left-handed pitchers last year. He entered Sunday 2-for-6 with a walk vs. lefties this year.
Refsnyder walked to lead off the seventh. He advanced to third on Rafael Devers’ single and scored on Justin Turner’s sac fly to right field, making it 3-1 Red Sox.
Red Sox vs. Rays
The Red Sox will begin a four-game series against the Rays in St. Petersburg on Monday. Righty Nick Pivetta (0-1, 1.80 ERA) will start for Boston opposite lefty Josh Fleming (0-0, 15.00 ERA).

Update: Bobby Dalbec will meet the Red Sox in Tampa Bay on Monday. No roster moves have been made yet but Dalbec would replace Adam Duvall if Duvall is placed on the IL.
DETROIT — Center fielder Adam Duvall left the Red Sox’s 4-1 win over the Tigers on Sunday during the ninth inning after landing on his left wrist trying to make a diving catch on a fly ball.
Duvall was receiving X-rays on his wrist when the media was in the clubhouse after the game. Manager Alex Cora said he had no other updates as of now.
“We’ll know more during the day and obviously tomorrow,” Cora said here at Comerica Park.
It’s the same wrist Duvall underwent surgery during the second half of last season.
MassLive.com texted chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom for an update. He wrote back, “We’ll have one tomorrow.”
Duvall has been Boston’s top hitter so far. He’s 15-for-33 (.455) with a .514 on-base percentage, 1.030 slugging percentage, four homers, five doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs and 11 runs in eight games.
“That’s a big guy out there,” Rob Refsnyder said. “I don’t think people realize how big he is. ... Looks like he was fully extended. I think he’s going to test right now so fingers crossed and hopefully it’s just kind of precautionary. He almost made a spectacular play. He’s all around a really, really good ballplayer. So we’re all hoping for the best.”
The Red Sox will fly to Tampa Bay this evening. They begin a four-game series against the Rays on Monday.

Crawford helps Red Sox to first sweep of '23 Casas goes 2-for-4 with RBI double, homer to lift offense 7:05 PM ADT
Dana Wakiji
DETROIT -- On a day when the Red Sox offense was kept a little more quiet, it was up to the pitchers to carry more of the load.
Starter Kutter Crawford, coming off an outing against the Pirates in which he gave up seven earned runs in four innings, showed he was up to the task in Boston’s 4-1 victory over the Tigers on Sunday at Comerica Park.
The win helped the Red Sox earn the road sweep, taking some of the sting out of getting swept at home by the Pirates.
“It was great,” said first baseman Triston Casas, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a home run. “Coming off the loss to Pittsburgh, we knew that we needed a bounce-back series and I’m glad we got it.
“Kutter threw an awesome game today. Connor [Wong] and Rob [Refsnyder] came up with some big hits as well and I was able to contribute, which felt great. But overall as a series, I think we hit well and pitched and played good defense. Got a lot of momentum going into Tampa now.”
Things didn’t start as well as Crawford could have imagined.
In the first, shortstop Kiké Hernández couldn’t get Javier Báez, who beat out an infield single. Then Kerry Carpenter struck out, but reached on a wild pitch that got away from Wong before Spencer Torkelson followed with an RBI single.
“Elevated fastballs,” manager Alex Cora said. “He got a few swings and misses up there. I think that was the key. Obviously we didn’t make one play up the middle and then the strikeout. They scored in that inning, but after that he settled down, made pitches and gave us a chance.”
The one run was all Crawford allowed in his five innings.
“I think I executed better, and I think being able to pitch off my fastball, using my fastball more kind of opened up things and I was able to kind of move it around the zone, up, down, in and out, kind of really opened up more options for me later in the count,” Crawford said.
Crawford struck out six and did not walk anyone.
“He was pretty dominant with his fastball,” Refsnyder said. “I know they were talking about in the warmups that his fastball was carrying well, obviously he was mixing in that cutter a bunch. His velo was up to 95-96 [mph] on the fastball. Defense behind him was playing really, really well, but Kutter was really, really dominant. Just attacking the strike zone. His repertoire is really, really challenging for lineups to navigate through. Kutter looked great. I’m really, really happy for him.”
Refsnyder had an RBI single in the fifth and Justin Turner hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Rafael Devers and Adam Duvall each finished 1-for-4. Duvall exited the game in the ninth after appearing to hurt his left wrist diving for a ball.
The Red Sox now head to St. Petersburg to face a 9-0 Rays team that has won its last two games by 11-0 scores. Although Crawford won’t pitch in that four-game series, he’s hopeful Boston’s sweep in Detroit will provide a spark.
“I think it’s huge,” Crawford said. “Being able to sweep any series, much less on the road, I think it’s huge for the team and hopefully boost us into the Tampa series.”
Casas came into Sunday’s game hitting just .130 with one home run and five RBIs.
Before the game, Cora thought facing a left-hander might help the left-handed-hitting Casas see the ball a little better.
Casas hit an RBI double off Tigers left-handed starter Matt Boyd in the second inning, and then hit a solo home run off left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve in the ninth.
“He hit a foul ball the other way, he fought off pitches in a 3-2 count, I think it was, against Boyd,” Cora said. “He’s a good lefty. Different angle, good ride, pitched inside against lefties. That’s what I meant. He can hit lefties and righties, he did a good job in Spring Training with them and I thought today he put two good swings and gave us a chance to win.” Get the latest from the Red Sox

Of Casas’ five hits this season, four have gone for extra bases. He has two doubles and two homers.
“As much as I want to say I don’t have a difference in my numbers, they don’t lie,” Casas said. “It felt good to hit a couple balls hard. I don’t really change my approach, righty vs. lefty, I just try to see a good pitch, hit it.

Duvall to get X-rays on wrist after exiting in 9th 6:02 PM ADT
Dana Wakiji ;
DETROIT -- In the bottom of the ninth inning of Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Tigers, Adam Duvall exited the game after he appeared to injure his left wrist on a diving play attempt in the outfield.
“He’s getting X-rays right now, so we don’t know,” manager Alex Cora said postgame. “We’ll know more tomorrow.”
Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson hit a shot to center field and Duvall's glove seemed to get stuck in the grass as he attempted to lay out for the catch. Duvall got up holding his left wrist, the same one that required season-ending surgery last July when he was with the Braves.
“He almost made a spectacular play,” left fielder Rob Refsnyder said. “That’s a big guy out there. I don’t think people really realize how big he is and how fast he moves. Looks like he was fully extended. ... He’s all-around a really, really good ballplayer so we’re all hoping for the best.”
Starter Kutter Crawford was also keeping his fingers crossed for Duvall.
“That’s not fun to watch at all,” Crawford said. “Seeing him walk off the field, I think we’re all just kind of pulling for him and hopefully it’s not as serious as we might think it is.”
Raimel Tapia replaced Duvall in center field.
Duvall has had a great start to the season, batting .455 with four homers and 14 RBIs in his first eight games with the Red Sox.
