Red Sox name Brennan Bernardino starter vs. Mets Sunday; who will follow?
Bernardino pitched two scoreless innings as an opener Monday in Oakland. He was followed by Nick Pivetta who struck out 13 in six scoreless and hitless innings. But Pivetta pitched an inning in Boston’s 8-6 win over the Mets on Saturday evening. He threw 15 pitches (nine strikes) in a scoreless eighth. “We needed Nick today in that inning,” manager Alex Cora said after Saturday’s win. “We did. It’s one of those that we’re OK (Sunday). We know what we’re going to do. He might be part of it. He might not be part of it. But that eighth inning today after two long days and where we were bullpen-wise, he gave us those three outs and we were able to get 27.” 1. Bernardino has pitched really well for us. I like him in the opener role (though I'd much prefer a traditional starter and not needing an opener.) 2. I was rather surprised that Cora used Pivetta in the 8th inning in Saturday's game. I was sure he would pitch 5 or so innings after Bernardino. It worked out though.

5-0 in the 5th now it is Casa's turn zips a liner to the monster and decides that challenging Chana would be a good idea was out by over a foot
few years now of this shit on the base paths. Baserunning was not one of our finer points in last night's game.

Fun stuff. Had anyone told you that our rotation this year was going to be: Paxton Crawford Opener Opener Opener I'm not sure anyone would've even turned the TV on. It's amazing. Our rotation is in shambles, our bullpen is having to take on extra work, yet our pitching staff continues to hold its own.

There is hope for America yet. But IRT the official scoring, it feels like they are all over the place. MLB should occasionally review some of these plays and overturn them where necessary. And even change official scorers if they aren't doing the job. Same with HOF voters. It gets to the point where some of these people are no longer up to the job, or have become too political. Someone name TR Sullivan voted for Dickey & Street, but not Beltran? If this was the real world, he'd have been fired. Randy Galloway voted for Napoli, but not Jeff Kent? If this was government work, people would just assume that he had been paid off. I am with you 100%. I have posted before about how wacky I think the HOF voting process is, for many reasons. There is no accountability placed on the voters. They can vote for whomever they want with no real baseball justification. It is largely political, IMO.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · 10h The ESPN crew was just talking about Brennan Bernardino's path to the #RedSox.
Played one year in HS, cut from his first juco team, played independent ball in Canada and paid the bills playing winter ball in Mexico.
Now a 2.36 ERA in 29 games Great story. Never give up.

A guy like Brasier broke in in 2013 at age 25 with 9 innings, then two years in AAA, then a year in Japan, and lands a BP job with the RS at age 30. He has still earned almost $6M and still has a shot for next year.

it has not been in years and that is on the coaches and skipperIn 2021, we ranked 21st in BsR at -4.4. In 2022, we were horrendous, ranking 27th at -11.5. This year, despite the gaffes in the last 2 games, we have improved in baserunning. We rank 14th with a +0.8 BsR.

Those "dumpster dive" type moves don't always work out, but when they do, it's a thing of beauty.
