Pete Abraham @peteabe · 17s Red Sox just ran into a triple play and none of the outs were close.
Wow.
That was embarrassing. Not your traditional around the horn triple play and something I don't think I've ever seen. I can maybe understand Duvall getting thrown out at first, but what in the world was Yoshida thinking? As the announcer pointed out, besides screwing up a good run scoring opportunity, that play saved Morton, who was already in trouble with pitch count, from having to throw any additional pitches. Thankfully, that play did not cost us the game.

'He's an animal': Pivetta continues his dominance in new role2:49 AM ADT Ian Browne Since his “demotion” to the bullpen, Pivetta has a 1.98 ERA over 41 innings, holding batters to a .128 average. “Yeah, whenever my name is called from the bullpen, however long I pitch, it’s just what I do,” Pivetta said. “I just go out and try to put us in the best position to win.” It's amazing how good Pivetta has been in this role. Really, I'm wondering what the difference from starting is, other than he is typically coming into the game in the 2nd or 3rd inning rather than in the first inning. Pivetta says that he isn't pitching any differently. I know that Pivetta was not happy about being moved to the pen, but I appreciate his attitude about doing whatever he needs to do to help the team.

Dan Shaughnessy @dan_Shaughnessy · 7h Ultimate greed and disgrace. Braves pull off a TRIPLE PLAY and NESN cuts to commercial as if nothing just happened. No replay before commercial. Just super quick cut to stupid ads while fans are reeling. This has been a thing all season, with good and bad plays. It's also been a thing in the middle of the innings. With the pitch clock and MLB trying to speed up the games, replays are often delayed until they can find a time to fit them in. There have often been plays where I would have liked to see a replay, and they never show one. This is not just NESN either.

Braves @ Red Sox Wednesday, 26th July 2023 7pm @ Fenway
Strider 11-3/3.78
Bello 7-6/ 3.60
It should be a good pitching matchup. Hopefully Bello bounces back from his last outing. I consider taking 1 out of 2 from the Braves a success, but it would be so nice to win tonight's game also. Let's go!

Game 102: Braves at Red Sox lineups and notesBy Andrew Mahoney Globe Staff,Updated July 26, 2023, 10:18 a.m. Tuesday night’s game was worth the wait for the Red Sox. After a 100-minute rain delay pushed the start back to 8:50 p.m., they handed the Braves a 7-1 loss, with each player in the lineup recording at least one hit. The Sox will have a chance for a sweep when the teams conclude their two-game series Wednesday night, when two of the game’s top young pitchers take the mound. Spencer Strider, 24, will be on the hill for Atlanta. The young righthander has eight double-digit strikeout games this season and 14 in his career. The Sox will counter with Brayan Bello, who will be facing the Braves for the second time this season, having limited them to two runs on six hits in six innings of a 5-2 win on May 10 at Atlanta. Lineups BRAVES (64-35): Ronald Acuna Jr. (R) RF Ozzie Albies (S) 2B Austin Riley (R) 3B Matt Olson (L) 1B Sean Murphy (R) C Marcell Ozuna (R) DH Eddie Rosario (L) LF Orlando Arcia (R) SS Michael Harris II (L) CF Pitching: RHP Spencer Strider (11-3, 3.78 ERA) RED SOX (54-47): Jarren Duran (L) LF Justin Turner (R) 2B Masataka Yoshida (L) DH Rafael Devers (L) 3B Adam Duvall (R) CF Alex Verdugo (L) RF Triston Casas (L) 1B Connor Wong (R) C Yu Chang (R) SS Pitching: RHP Brayan Bello (7-6, 3.60 ERA) Time: 7:10 p.m. TV, radio: ESPN, WEEI-FM 93.7 Braves vs. Bello: Ronald Acuña Jr. 1-3, Ozzie Albies 0-2, Orlando Arcia 0-2, Travis d’Arnaud 1-1, Michael Harris II 1-2, Sean Murphy 0-3, Matt Olson 0-3, Austin Riley 2-3, Eddie Rosario 1-3 Red Sox vs. Strider: Justin Turner 0-3 Stat of the day: Strider is the first player in MLB history to strike out at least 350 batters in the first 40 starts of his career. He’ll enter Wednesday’s game with 354 strikeouts in 40 starts. Notes: Masataka Yoshida leads the American League with 39 multi-hit games. … Jarren Duran is 21-for-22 on stolen base attempts this year. He is the first Red Sox to steal at least 20 bases in a season since Mookie Betts (30) and Andrew Benintendi (21) in 2018. … The Red Sox are 14-5 since June 30, best in MLB in that span. … The Braves have the best record in baseball, but have dropped six of their last nine games. They are 10-8 in July after going 21-4 in June. Song of the Day: The Rolling Stones - Like A Rolling Stone www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRYokc3VBC4

RED SOX NOTEBOOK The Red Sox look very different from the last time they played the league-best BravesBy Julian McWilliams Globe Staff,Updated July 24, 2023, 7:28 p.m. When the Red Sox visited the Braves back in May, the club was still trying to figure out who it was. The rotation was beset by injuries. James Paxton had yet to touch the hill as a member of the Red Sox after suffering a hamstring strain during spring training. He wouldn’t make his debut until that Friday, May 12, against the Cardinals at Fenway. Garrett Whitlock was on the injured list with elbow neuritis but had been progressing well. Nick Pivetta was still in the rotation, pitching in the series opener against Atlanta at Truist Park. It didn’t go well. Actually, it was about exactly the same. We went into Atlanta 6 games over .500, having won 8 out of 9. Atlanta came into Fenway when we were 6 games over .500, having won 10 out of 14. Our rotation was beset with injuries, and it is beset with injuries again. And it did go well. We split two games at Atlanta. That's the best any team could hope for.

Just super quick cut to stupid ads while fans are reeling. These things are probably automated. I doubt there is a discussion about whether or not to postpone a commercial.

Well we are at 1 hour in this rain delay and it is still pouring
They just had the weather man on and it is not looking good. Basically they have a bunch of light bands and then light ones......until 10:00 pm....
Supposed to be a beautiful sunny, humid day tomorrow
then of course travel to San Fran Thursday..
Not to bummed out. The Kiki news made my whole week. I hate rain delays and rainouts. The good news for me is that since I'm not working, I was able to stay up and watch the whole game. Not working as in retired, I hope?

6 games at SF & Seattle. I'd love to see a split out of that. Which also takes us past the trade deadline. It'll be an interesting week coming up.

I've never seen anything like that before. Not even close. Of course, when we are winning, it always seems a little funnier. Much funnier when we are winning. Sweeping the Braves, albeit only a 2 game series, was huge.
