Will Middlebrooks just made a comment that was borderline brillant and really sums it up
"Boston, any sport is not a town where we want or are interested in forming players/ rookies but every sports team is expected to win now".

Fried strikes out 13 and Albies hits a 3-run homer to power the Braves past the Red Sox 8-3 AP
BOSTON (AP) Max Fried struck out a career-high 13 batters in seven strong innings, Ozzie Albies hit a tiebreaking three-run homer and the Atlanta Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 8-3 on Tuesday night.
Orlando Arcia added a solo shot in the seventh for the Braves, who improved to 3-0 this season against Boston.
Fried (6-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits while working seven innings or more for sixth time in his past eight starts.
“I felt like I had a really good feel for the slider and my curveball was probably the best that it’s been all year,” Fried said. “I just was relying on really those two pitches and just making some adjustments. It’s not normally my thing but I’ll definitely take it.”
Fried topped his previous best of 11 strikeouts, which he had done twice, more recently on Sept. 30, 2019 against the Chicago White Sox.
“That curveball was really, really good tonight,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
Fried struck out the side in the first and didn’t allow a hit until Dominic Smith homered in the third to pull Boston within 2-1. Two errors in the first inning by first baseman Smith helped Atlanta to an early lead.
After tying it at 3-all in the fifth, the Braves blew it open in the sixth when Albies went deep against Kutter Crawford (2-5) after Austin Riley led off with a walk and Marcell Ozuna reached on an infield single.
Albies drove a 1-0 fastball to right center and the large contingent of Atlanta fans that took over a good chunk of Fenway Park erupted in cheers.
“I think we continue to show signs that we’re coming and getting the offense going up and down the lineup,” Snitker said.
Chase Anderson took over for Crawford in the seventh and was quickly taken deep by Arcia, whose sixth homer of the season stretched Atlanta’s lead to 7-3.
Catcher Sean Murphy hit an RBI single to tie it for Atlanta in the fifth inning, then in the bottom half threw out Ceddanne Rafaela as he attempted to steal second. Murphy’s night ended in the top of the ninth after he was hit by a pitch on the inside of his right elbow, which immediately began to swell.
“It just looks worse than it is. It will go down quick,” Murphy said.
SALE RETURN
The Red Sox welcomed back Braves left-hander Chris Sale, who spent 2017-23 with Boston. Sale stood on the top step of the visitors’ dugout Tuesday night and waved to fans throughout Fenway Park, stopping for a moment to place his hand over his heart in appreciation for the support he received over his years in Boston, which included the 2018 World Series title.
“That was nice,” Snitker said. “I know he meant a lot to this organization and that was nice that they acknowledged him.”
PUT ME IN
Jamie Westbrook, who played in 1,159 games in the minors before making his big league debut Sunday as a pinch-hitter, made his first start in the majors, playing second base and batting fifth. He finished 0 for 2.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Braves: Signed veteran INF Brian Anderson and transferred LHP Tyler Matzek (left elbow soreness) to the 60-day injured list.

While injuries take toll, Sox know they've 'got to keep going' 1:29 AM ADT Ian Browne
BOSTON -- The injuries started in Spring Training and have come in waves throughout the season.
The latest wave -- Vaughn Grissom going down with a right hamstring strain on Saturday and Wilyer Abreu spraining his right ankle after falling down the dugout steps as he walked back in from a defensive inning on Sunday -- has left the Red Sox with six regular position players on the injured list at once.
Considering the circumstances, the 8-3 loss to the Braves and the electric Max Fried (13 strikeouts in seven innings) on Tuesday night wasn’t all that surprising.
Attrition is attrition. And there are times throughout a 162-game season a team just pays for it.
Despite this, manager Alex Cora tried to set the tone before the game with his unrelenting attitude.
“ and ran four miles,” said Cora. “That’s the way it is. Injuries are part of it. This morning, kids, ran four miles and then it’s time to go. Can’t stop now. We’re 3 1/2 games from the [third American League] Wild Card spot. That’s the way I see it.”
All in all, the Red Sox (30-31) have done well to hang close with Lucas Giolito (right UCL), Trevor Story (left shoulder) and Garrett Whitlock (right UCL) all out for the season and Triston Casas (left rib cage) and Masataka Yoshida (left thumb) gone for more than a month.
“We've been good. We've been bad. We’ve been OK,” said Cora. “Can’t stop. I’m not going to stop. That’s the message to everybody.”
Abreu has turned into a cornerstone for the Red Sox in all aspects of the game, and the fluky nature of his injury had to be annoying. But Cora continues to take each bump in stride.
“Yeah, Wily, he’s actually seeing the [foot] specialist, we’ll know more [after that],” said Cora. “But it’s an IL

Red Sox no match for Braves in lopsided loss

BOSTON — Committing multiple errors and serving up three-run homers seldom represents a winning formula, as the Red Sox found out the hard way Tuesday night.
The Red Sox gift-wrapped two unearned runs and later got crushed by the long ball in an 8-3 drubbing at the hands of the Atlanta Braves. The Braves ran their record to 3-0 against the Sox this season, having swept Boston in Atlanta last month.
Offensively, the Red Sox did very little against Braves’ ace Max Fried, who recorded a career high in strikeouts by fanning 13 Boston hitters. The Red Sox were limited to just four hits on the night.
For the past month or so, homers have been an issue for Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford and that was the case again Tuesday night.
In a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth, Crawford invited trouble by issuing a leadoff walk to Austin Riley before Marcel Ozuna reached on a hard-hit infield single off the glove of Rafael Devers at third.
Crawford got the first out when he induced Matt Olson to pop to short, but when he left a 91 mph four-seamer belt high to Ozzie Albies, he paid dearly for it as Albies drove the pitch into the home bullpen.
It was the sixth homer allowed by Crawford in his last seven starts after having not allowed any in his first six outings this season.
Atlanta used the long ball to pad the score some in the seventh when Orlando Arcia took reliever Chase Anderson deep for a solo shot. The Braves tacked on another run in the ninth, also off Anderson.
The Braves had pulled even in the fifth inning when Jarred Kelenic led off with double to center and quickly rode home when Sean Murphy drove a single through the infield, just out of the dive of second baseman Jamie Westbrook, who got his glove on the ball but only enough to slow it down some.
Boston took its first lead of the night in the fourth. After a walk, a single and a catcher’s interference loaded the bases with one out, bringing Bobby Dalbec to the plate. Dalbec turned on a fastball on the inner half and sliced it into right, scoring Connor Wong and Rafael Devers. The two RBI represented half of Dalbec’s previous total for the season.
The Sox cut the lead in half in the third when Dominic Smith swatted a homer into the Monster Seats, at least partly redeeming himself for some sloppy defensive play in the previous inning. It was Smith’s second homer since joining the Red Sox.
Crawford was let down by his defense in the top of the second as the Braves jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Smith stayed back on a chopper from Matt Olson and had the ball clang off his glove into right field for a leadoff single. After a double by Albies gave the Braves runners at second and third, Smith fumbled a throw from Westbrook, as both baserunners came around to score.
The Sox had gone 13 straight games without allowing an unearned run before seeing that streak snapped Sunday. Smith’s two miscues led to two more.
SERIES WRAPS WEDNESDAY
The two teams will meet again Wednesday afternoon in the conclusion of their brief, two-game interleague series.
That pitching matchup will feature Nick Pivetta (2-4, 4.08) vs. Braves’ rookie righthander Spencer Schwellenbach (0-1, 5.40), beginning at 1:35 p.m.
